i recant my earlier statement of the pressure i talked to the mechanic again after i made my post an it was 150# not 120 an i got the EF-12 but now the question is do i have the valves redone or do i just get a whole new used motor ? i can rip the motor apart myself an take the head in an get it done for about $200 an hope i don't have a cracked block or spend $500+ on another used motor what to do

$200 for a valve job? how much mehanical aptitude do you have? if you are reasonably skilled, and can do the bulk of the strip and reaqssemble, a new valve (unlikely) should be $30 and a seat cut and valve facing shouldn't run more than $50

not bad....especially for new valves and guides, if its only a valve, do the head, either way, pull the head off and take a look, if its nasty, make the decision then, but chances are its just a burnt valve.

that would be a good reason, mines holding 150 psi on all pots, not bad for a gf10 You mean EF10? He types with an accent.

well i pulled the head off an there is a chunk of the exhaust valve missing so i took it to the shop they told me if i heard from them today it was bad news ( cracked head etc ) but i didn't hear from them so I'm guessing its good news but there was a 1/16- 1/8 inch of build up on all of the intake valves so the head is getting redone an I'm also gonna redo the piston rings an the connecting rod bearings but does anyone know where i can find a listing of torque specs ?

I'm getting plenty of exhaust pressure out the tail pipe an as for the cat being plugged i don't know i removed the front cat honey comb a year ago when i replaced the clutch cuz it was shot full of 1/2 inch burn holes but now i have a new problem it will only crank for a couple of seconds when i hit the key then it sounds like the starter Bendix retracts an continues spinning i have an appointment with a mechanic tomorrow maybe they can tell me whats going on The starter has a bad solenoid and is shorting, at certain engine rpms your starter will start spinning (disengaged) as well. I have had a starter give this behavior right out of the box. The solenoid alone will cost near $30 USD last I checked. Did you remove the restrictor plate under the honeycomb catalyst ? The unrestricted exhaust flow would run your exhaust valves hotter than normal. -RRJ

the honey combs in the front cat was all busted to pieces an melted into a blob so i removed it but the motor has 100+k miles on it an as for the starter it was the solenoid that crapped out so i went to the local pick an pull yard an pulled one for $9 i just needed it to get it to the mechanic an back home once i get it all back together an running i can buy a new one once my work pays me

heh, solenoids are easy to change, pull the starter out (disconnect battery first) and just work thru it. LIGHTLY grease the pivots and use a "non-sticky" lubricant on the sliding collar so it doesn't pick up clutch dust and jam in a few months. Should last for years.

2 weeks???
I had gaskets and seals here in 3 days from Rock Auto. Thats 3 working days from Houston to New Zealand. And that wasn't express freight either.
No I'm not getting an advertising commission........perhaps I should.

i made the mistake going with a local auto parts store who told me they could get the parts in 2 days from one of there suppliers but the supplier didn't check there inventory before saying the parts then they didn't see the order had bean held due to lack of parts but now i need to put the oil pan back together an get coolant in i can start it up an by the way does anyone know if i need to put this part back on the oil pan ?an if so do i need to get another gasket ? the gasket that was on the oil pan was silicone Attachments:
