I've had my 90 fwd justy for almost 10 years now. It was my first car and its always been there when I need it. On the other hand I've always wished it was 4wd, and had more power aswell. So i got to thinking about modern subs and how their all awd and got to wondering if i can just swap all the gear? and if so wich is the best swap to look at? awd turbo 2+liter sounds really nice, but my knowledge of subys and their engines isnt what it should be. So if anyone can enlighten me a bit on what would work best for me it'd be much appreciated.

Sell the Justy, buy an Impreza. That's the easiest and cheapest way to go fast with AWD

Falconbenny, Hollandjusty is right. If you want an 1800LB AWD hatchback in this country, you're just shit out of luck. The closest you'll get to that is the Mazda 323 GTX if you want to go fast. AWD turbo hatchback. You cannot begin to appreciate how expensive, labor intensive and time consuming it is to try and put AWD Subaru powertrain and drivetrain into a Justy. No offense intended sir, but if you aren't up on your Subaru knowledge then I am near certain you are not up to the task of creating such a hybrid. Unless you already own $5,000-$10,000 in tools including but not limited to, welding equipment and air compressors, some very keen welding and wiring skills and an additional $8,000 or so to invest into the project. . . . . . . it ain't gonna happen. Buy an Impreza and get on with life. Click here for an terrific example

I disagree. With some careful planning and a 5 story building, he could plant an Allison V12 aero engine into a Justy no problems. When dropped into the engine bay from the top of said building, you not only insure the snug fitment of the engine, but you also get cool super low suspension height as well. Of course the fuel consumption would be a bit of an issue, but I'm sure he can weld a 200 gallon tank onto a trailer and fit a tow bar.

Ok ok point taken... I do have the tools, welders, compressors, etc but probably not the ambition. so what would be easy or more cost effective swapping a 4wd drivetrain or just looking for a 4wd justy if I'd like it to do good in the snow? and how much hp does boosting a just give you? like 20%? and how much engine work would i need to handle it? I'm still in the brain storming process obviously so any advice helps, thanks.

Since Justys are so thin and light weight (at least they are here), a flowed, ported 1200 with a free flow exhaust should be plenty to get you through stuff. Make sure its the fuel injection model. If you can't just buy the whole car then possably you can buy a wreck with the right parts and you can swap them onto your car.
As for a complete drive train from something much bigger?
Its a long project and quite possibly illegal once finished due to the chassis not being able to deal with the power.

I'm done chiming in on these conversations. People only want to hear someone agree with them and it doesn't matter anyway because these discussions never lead to an actual project. 0%

The latter. 4wd Justys can't be beat in snow; they're the fastest thing on the road(aside from other Subies). The issue in snow is that the revs have to go sky high in seconth to avoid getting bogged down shifting into third when doggin'.

Seattlejusty, why are you cryin man? Isn't the purpose of a forum to discuss things that may or may not become a reality? If all your gonna do is be an insulting whiny lil punk then theres a simple remedy, don't reply and hey it saves you the trouble of being an ass too. The fact is you don't know me or the tools and materials i have available, so to assume that I'm retarded simply because I'm new to a "justy" forum is ridiculous. Tuning up a justy is ridiculous, but it's be done, and will be again. So untill you have something productive to say, please, stfu!

I think he has valid reasons for dissuading owners from destroying the few remaining Justys there are left. Plus He gave an honest reply to your original post. Yes you can discuss mods on the "mods" section of this board all you want, just don't be surprised when people do not agree with you. The only engine that fits in a Justy seems to be a Justy engine. Swapping in a newer subaru AWD drive is a fun thought, but when you start realizing the engineering, logistics, time, and money involved; it does not make any sense. Try exploring lesser challenges first like turbo or super-charging the Justy motor. With a mild boost (5~7psi) you should be able to almost double the power output of your demure Justy engine. -RRJ

Well RRJ I don't really think I was out of line, seemed par for the course with the negative comments coming my way when I'm simply brainstorming ideas. Is positive feedback too much to ask for? Isn't that what we're all looking for? I'm not looking for just a smile and a nod, constructive criticism is more then welcome theres just no need for insults. But I will say It's pretty petty and for that I apologize. So can we chalk it up to a poor morning attitude and feeling offended? I'm not trying to be a jerk, just thinking out loud and looking for positive feedback, thats all. So with that being said thanks for checking me and your feedback, well put.

i reckon i could shoe horn an EVO IV motor and trans into a justy, but whats the point? the chassis isn't strong enough, they were built for a purpose and the do that well. Turbo a 1200 EFI to 10 psi and leave it at that...oh, and do it on a manual, those ECVT things tend to spit bits thru the floor at anything over 65 HP.....the manuals good to 150 hp.

Justy seems like a shame not having AWD on a subaru. -RRJ
