Well, here goes! I have been plotting and planning for a while now, and now it is time to get to work. Here is my plan. I have a 1992 Justy with no engine or transmission in her, in excellent shape otherwise. I have acquired a 1988 Chevy Turbo Sprint, with a low mileage OEM engine, and a freshly remanufactured turbo.
The plan is to transplant the Sprint turbo engine and transmission package into the Justy, incuding the computer and wiring harness, complete.
engine mounts will require some fabrication I suspect, but that should be straight forward fabrication.
the hard part will be creating drive shafts ( dog bones ) that are chevy sprint on the transmission end, and Justy on the wheel end. Also determining the correct overall length will be a challenge.
but the end result should be a fuel efficient, but quite zippy, Turbo Justy! By using an engine that is factory turbocharged, I avoid having to deal with all of the headaches that come from trying to put a turbo onto an engine that was not designed for it. So reliabilty and longevity should be good as well.
Only change I would like to make is to move the Intercooler out front, next to the radiator, behind the grille. I dont like the way the intercooler is mounted in the Sprint . Seems like it would never really get enough fresh air to properly cool the charge air coming from the compressor.
So, with that said, Any Constructive criticism is most welcome. ;D
If you cannot phrase your comment or suggestion in a constructive and/or positive manner, I would respectfully ask that you simply refrain from commenting.
Thanks for your interest! Cheers ! Dave in cheese-head land.
