i know how to take off the head bolts, loosen the timing belt, and the other belts, but i'm having trouble taking the intake manifold off, there's a couple of bolts on the underside of it i can't figure out how to get to, and also, the camshaft gear has been turned and stuff since i took off the timing belt, and i have NO IDEA how to line all the pulleys/gears up to have it back "in time". anybody got a good write up on doing all of this?

Best is to remove the head with the intake manifold. You can remove it afterwards. Just make sure you disconnect everything (esp. take care on the oil pressure sensore wire) and then take it out all together (with exhaust manifold removed). The lineup of the crank and cam shaft is done as follows:
Crank: You have to take a look on the gear. It has a dot on it's surface (remove the thin plate before it). Line that one up with the triangular mark on the aluminium housing. The head has a mark too which needs to be lined up with the gear. The gear has a small hole - line that up with the mark on the block.
Greetings, Klaus

thank you, that helps me some, but i have the head off now, and im sorry, but i see several holes, and marks in the camshaft gear, and i don't really see a mark on the head itself. AND, as far as the crankshaft pulley is concerned, i'm sorry to say i don't understand clearly what you mean either. i see a really small gear that the bottom of the timing belt goes on, i ASSUME that's the crankshaft pulley, but i don't see how to even see any marks on it, then there's a bigger actual pulley outside of the timing belt plastic housing, that another belt is on that goes onto the air conditioner thing, and the alternator. is THAT actually the crankshaft pulley? if you have email or a phone number, or instant message i would appreciate the help. my email is dsmsecondgen@hotmail.com i'm sorry, but i could really use the help, and i need to get this car running pretty soon. thanks. brian.

Hi Brian, I'm talking about the little about 2mm hole. You see the letters thet say "EF12". The hole below is one of the big ones around. But the next below that one is a small one. That's the one to line up with the mark on the plastic on the upper side... But.. I'll send you something by mail --------------- I have to correct my statement above: the gear attached to the crank has a furrow, not a hole which needs to be aligned with the small triangle. The gear attached to the cam shaft has a 3mm hole which needs to be lined up with a mark in the plastic housing on the upper side - not with the block!
