Hi, I just found this forum and I hope someone can help me find the answer. My 89 carb justy will suddenly start to skip and sputter and then quit sputtering. It might do it for a second or two, it might do it for ten miles and quit, it might do it off and on all day and then not for several days in a row. I've changed everything electrical (plugs, wires, roter, even the distibutor) except the coil pack and the computer test says that it is alright. I've changed to fuel filter. This problem has stumped my main mechanic and two others. Anybody out there had this problem or knows how to fix it?

A couple of questions..
1) When does the missing/sputtering problem occur? When the engine is cold, during warm up, or when the engine is at operating temp?
2) Does it happen only during certain weather or outside temp conditions? Example..Damp or rainy weather outside temp below 50 degrees.
A couple of things to check...
It sounds like an intermittent problem that comes and goes and varies in duration judging by your post. It may possibly be a loose connection or a frayed wire so visually check the electrical connections at the positive and negative side of the ignition coil, also make sure to check the coil wiring harness and distributor wiring harness for loose conections and damaged wires. (With the car running wiggle the harness and connections, if it sputters and misses you found it!)
If the problem seems to happen when the outside temp is hot and the engine is warm the coil could be breaking down due to heat and test fine when cold. You said you changed the distributor so I'm guessing the pick-up coil and module are good.
Hope this helps.
Good Luck!
