you can see it wen you take the oil pan out

Dude ... don't tell me you were pulling the engine out of the car with this rope around the exaust manifold ...
There is a hook on the right side of the head where you can raise the engine!
And to your question. At the moment you can't see the chain. You will have to remove the side housing of the engine. What I mean is the aluminium part behind the belt pulley. Removing the oil pan as Justyracer said will give you a sight to the chain - but you can't remove it. Removing the chain is a PITA anyways - you'll have to pull the crankshaft to do that.

Dude ... don't tell me you were pulling the engine out of the car with this rope around the exaust manifold ... Oh god no... that rope is on there for me to drag it across the floor so I can take a pic.
