i am looking into buying a 90-92 just and am wondering what the performance potential is... the all-wheel drive is very intriguing as you don't see many hatchbacks with that option.. obviously a engine upgrade to some sort of 4 cylinder would be one thing i'd want to look into, turbocharged with a front mounted intercooler.. k + n air filter.. exhaust work.. maybe some aluminum headers.. essentially i want to know what kind of horsepower i could squeeze out of one of these great little cars?

It would depend on the engine you want to put in ?
all engine once proprely prepared have lots of potential...even the 3cylinder...

for the engine i'm thinkin maybe an EJ20T, in my dreams maybe the twin turbo one out of the japanese spec legacy GT, but the single turbo should be more than sufficent for my needs

there is no way you are going to get an ej20t inbetween those frame rails.
Just turbo the justy motor.
I did, i'm making somewhere over 100 hp, and the car will stick with a stock WRX, a modded Legacy turbo, and a pile of other crap.

thanks man, yea i figured i was dreamin with the engine.. so your ride has a turbo from a legacy or impreza? also wondering about intercooler options, i want to make some sort of cage for a front mount, as to avoid damage.. a friend of mine suggested top mount but i figured he was talkin out of his ass... also what other horsepower mods have you done to your ride? exhaust? air filters?

I'm running the Turbo from a Subaru EA82T engine.
I'm using an intercooler from a suzuki forza turbo, and i have it top mounted. and have a hood scoop feeding it fresh air.
Other mods...well just about everything
With the turbo. i had to make a custom manifold (obviously). Then after the turbo it is 2.25 inch exhaust all the way back into a magnaflow muffler.
Intake...i just have a cone filter clamped onto the turbo inlet elbow.
I am in the process of installing a Greddy Emanage System to properly manage the fuel.
Cams are coming soon....just i also have a rally car to tinker with.
I have a lightened flywheel waiting to be installed (12 lbs total) and going to install a 4 puck racing clutch.
There is a crap load of other mods which i forget (read: too lazy to mention)
