Hey, My friend and I have finally started the Justy body and interior rebuild. I'll post updates each day we hit the garage with pictures if I can get some batteries for my digi.
I'm still torn on what color it should be painted, I'm between a dark green and a dark blue (most likely the Subaru Racing blue, I think its Imperial Blue). Any suggestions would be appreciated.
DAY 1
We got to the shop and did a quick sweep, drove the Justy in and started ripping the interior out. The driver/passenger seats were so simple to get out, 4 bolts each, the tracks are in A+ shape, no rust on the tracks and a little bit on the bolt areas. Middle console was a simple 2x screw job, and the back seat was 2x bolts on each side and a middle screw.
We tore the whole carpet out with ease, and found the cause of the damp carpet and the gasoline fumes. (will post pics soon) There is a huge 1/2 foot long x 1/2 inch hole that any water could just fly into. The gas tank seal wasn't sealed at all and could be removed with no force (the seal around the rim of it was ripped). The entire floor of the car is in good shape, but all around the edges is rusted and holes = more water.
After the interior was completely stripped (other then the dash area) we started sanding the hood. Using 2 hand sanders and a power drill with sanding pads, we finished the hood in about 3 hours, just need to finesse the edges (removing hood).
Got to garage at 9:30pm. Got home at 3:30am. A good night (covered in red powder)

RM, Good progress... Make sure you wear a particle mask, so that you'll still be alive to drive it on launch day. Cheers,

Yeah, I bought a bunch of cheap-ass mastercraft masks that break as soon as you put them on... so I now have one I 'tuned' with lots of electrical tape. My friend won't wear one, he goes loco when he has something on his face, hahha... but yeah the sandings would be pretty lethal wouldnt they? It smells very lead-y or irony, I figure its OLD stuff... plus the rust wouldn't be too awesome to breath.
DAY 2
We planned on just getting the fenders done, and we did. Fenders are sanded, whomever had this Justy before me was poison at bodywork. There is the slackest weld job and foolish body fill bumps... But it all sanded nicely. We also got the a-bars done as best we could, its difficult to get under that trim (anyone know if you can get easy replacement trim? I don't want to rip it off and be left without trim...) we also got the wiper arms sanded ,they look very nice, like a new JUSTY!.
We made our plans for the interior today as well... We're going to reupholster the inside with indoor/outdoor cream carpet... now I know what your thinking- strange. But the roof inside is cream as well, and with a couple of floor mats its going to look like a luxury car inside. We may throw a couple of blue or green LEDs under the dash area or in the hatch where the sound is. I know that sounds tacky, but you'll see, its going to be subtle, not ricer at all.
Oooh I can't wait.
Got to the shop at 5:30pm. Home at 11:30pm.
