Wondering if anyone has put factory a/c on a car that was never equipped with such? Gen II. Just off the top of my head I'm worried most about wiring (would I need a wiring setup from an a/c car?) and the climate controls (major difference?). Or would it be better to do some sort of after market thing-a-ma-bob? Or just forget it and roll down the windows? Thanks!

The dash harness had all the correct plugs if I remember correctly. I think there was a relay that had to be plugged in on the firewall just behind the intake manifold to make it all work. It's an easy swap if you have a parts car. No major rewiring needs to be done fortunately. I charged it up with some ES12a hydrocarbon refrigerant and it still blows cold to this day. The A/C does make accessing the oil filter a real pain on a 4WD 5-speed!

Hey Tim! the reason it is like plug and play is to make it easy to install after the dealer recieved them. I am pretty sure subaru shipped no AC equipped cars stateside. They were all dealer installs. I know I had to wait a day while they sent mine ( a 91) to get the AC. None of them on the lot (8 or 9) had AC.

My '93 2WD DL has a complete A/C system on it, and I am debating removing it. I did just drive in the rain/storms this week though and was wishing I had it working (needs a recharge) but when I am working on the car I am wishing with four letter words that the A/C system was not on the car!
It's clearly not an integrated system though as on newer cars or my 1995 Impreza. On the Impreza, A/C is part of the normal dial. On the Justy, it's an accessory button to the left of the HVAC panel.

Let me know if you find one and want to get A/C into it. My system checked out except for the main hoses which had leaks and need to be replaced. I would swap pieces with someone that had a Gen2 non A/C car. This would have to include the radiator panel, alternator brackets and any replacement HVAC pieces. If I don't hear back from you for a while, I will post a classified.

Well, I've removed the AC on two Justys and I still have the stuff. I can see where hot weather folks want it. But yea, it costs me too much power and weight, plus it really unclutters the engine bay. It's an old car, I roll the windows down from the drivers seat, without power windows And pop the rear side windows, don't you just love those? Doug Edit: Oh, I've had four, and they've all been two door...or three door hatches?
