I wanna find a pair of front struts to modify into adjustable ones (coilover) for my -87 gen1 Trendy. Found a gen2 on a junkyard not too far away, but is there any difference between them?

I have some Gen2 struts on my floor at the moment, I could take pics if you have a Gen1 strut to compare. Sorry, I do not know if they are the same or not.

That could help some. Well at least I think it's the same down to where the drive axle sits, think I remember there was something different there?

I put gen2 struts front struts in a gen1, only difference was in the brakeline routing from what I remember. Worked fine.

Cool info Scoobaru! This helps me too as my project is trying to find us a viable suspension replacement and I was not aware they were different..
Ultima: I am finally able to do some work on my car today, so I should be able to get those pictures for you whilst in the garage.

Here are the pics I took today. This is my '93 DL 2WD front left as well as a used set I got from a member here. You can see there is about 5cm that is held by the spindle in the pic with the measuring tape. Hope this helps! Super dirty... Spare unit - to be made into an adjustable coilover: Seems like we are on the same path, so I will do my best to keep updated on what I find out as far as struts.
