rminicat, Fantastic. When I first purchased the '#89 JUSTY', the remainder of brake pad/backing actually fell out onto the street ! Luckily the caliper piston did not 'hyperextend'. Mine looked similar - rust on white 4wd - but the 'RS' version - which to the best of my figuring just means color matched bumpers, red stripe seats, and a sticker . I'd recommend spraying the trunk handle mechanism with a good dose of P'Blaster followed by silicone lube... likes to get rusty/crumbly under there too... Have fun; Keep us posted,

Nice, from the look of things and rust situation, you may indeed have to completely disassemble and put back together...good luck with the fasteners though, I've snapped off many on my rusty Justy . Pay close attention to where the suspension attaches to the unibody and the condition of the apron up front...probably like Swiss cheese at this point. My Justy would look very much or worse than yours if I didn't check and fix rust every year. Good luck and I hope you can salvage another neglected Justy .

Do either of you know of a complete manual for restoring these old justy's? I'm thinking about getting another one to drive, and then building a shed to take this one apart in. There is actually a junk yard in my area that has about ten justy's and I'm hoping to get a few to use for parts, or restore if it doesn't cost too much. I'm going to start selling my plasma to pay for the restore, so the money isn't comming out of my paycheck at all.

Specific to restoring? Not yet... that I am aware of. If you can blaze a trail of photo documentation, hook us up - will probably wind up here in the guides section. In my humble opinion, a Factory Service Manual and a Factory Parts Manual will give you the best combo of procedure for dis/assembly; repair and exploded diagrams (including body panels). The other manuals: Chilton or eBay CDs are negligable in their usefulness (mainly because they try to group together non-JUSTY Subaru procedures w/ JUSTY). I have not had a chance to check out some of the leading or once leading shop software like AllData, so cannot speak on their helpfulness/accuracy.

Hey thanks for the links. If I get a barn or big garage to take the Justy apart I'll do I photo diary on it. Until then I'm going to stick to replacing the clutch and brakes. I slid under the car yesterday to check it and there wasn't much rust at all, but it looks like I'll have to replace two floor boards.

That'd be nice Justy89, I'm afraid I don't have the money to do a complete rebuild on this justy right now, so I'm working on the most pressing issues now. Maybe I'll buy a good justy and then use the one I have now as a long term project.
