So,
Many have posted questions on changing the rear pinion seal if a rear diff starts leaking. No one has posted any results.
Things that can leak: the pinion oil seal, The differential carrier cover gasket, and oil seals and o-rings where each axle drive shaft enters the differential carrier.
The service manual gives the following procedure (slightly abbreviated):
-Un-bolt propeller shaft. -Drain gear oil. -Loosen lock nut after uncaulking and remove it from drive pinion shaft. -Remove washer and companion flange. -Remove oil seal. Do not reuse oil seal. ...(goes into details of replacing diff internals) -Press-fit oil seal. -Fit companion flange and washer, and tighten lock nut. Use a new drive pinion lock nut. -Tighten lock nut until there is no play in companion flange and front differential and measure preload. If preload is insufficient, retighten lock nut another 5-10 degrees. Do not perform caulking until tooth contact pattern check is completed. (I think this tooth contact check only applies to new installs of internal gears) Load: 2.9-6.4lb Starting torque: 3.9-8.7 in-lb. -Excessive preload=replace spacer. Preload insufficient=retighen lock nut 5-10 deg. -Caulk drive pinion lock nut.
Sounds easy enough. Caulk a nut? Never done that. I've staked with a hammer and punch, but caulk?
Anyone do this before?

So, no takers? I really don't know how to caulk a nut. Bust a nut, perhaps. Caulk?
WTF is Fuji Heavy Industries talking about?
I think they mean to stake the nut...

Here's the pics, hope they help. Note my awesome custom Justy Companion Flange Wrench. Remove driveshaft & bungee out of way: Factory "caulked" nut Pinion shaft oil seal removed: (Don't forget to put some grease in the lips of the new seal, as well as putting clean gear oil on the other companion flange contact points.) Custom wrench: Checking pre-load: NEW FACTORY NUT "caulked" or shall we say "staked", by me:
