This is the sway bar end link mount on the right front of my 87 Justy. As you can see it's broke off. I have the end piece which of course was still sandwiched between the bushings. Anybody out there ever done a repair on this or have any suggestions??? Think the tip can be welded back on??? Thanks, Ray

I have a friend that builds road race cars and he says he always removes the front sway bar. He says that it torques the body wrong or something like that. Something about when one end pushes down it pushes the other end up, which you don't necessarily want. I don't understand it. But he knows what he is talking about. I have always wanted to weld a rear sway bar mount on my 88, I just haven't done it yet. Actually I don't know where to get one right now anyway. It probably didn't come with one because you don't need as much in the dirt and snow.

My sway bar ends broke off in the same place as yours. I decided to try driving without it. That was several months ago. My '87 Justy handles well and corners well without the sway bar. This leads me to wonder why Subaru (usually smart guys) put that thing on??

A swaybar is not really a safety feature...it is a handling feature. You can take it off if you want, but you'll find you get a bit more body roll and dive under hard cornering.

no, thats wrong. it is a necessary safty feature for load change situations. like in countrys like germany its forbidden to drive without a sway bar, because the cars wouldnt pass the national safty standarts. if you would have any idea of a cars handling when its loaded you kids wouldnt talk it down like that.

I'm not talking it down...they are certainly nice to have. In Canada we don't have any rules requiring sway bars though.

Thats because Canada, in general, is just better... I don't know about a "safety issue" for the swaybar not being there. Some cars, it was a dealer option that you had to pay for.. It's like saying the passenger sideview mirror is unsafe to drive without, yet Justy's, Tercel's, Civic's, Ranger's all came with the option of a sideview mirror or not. Yes, I agree that if you take corners at 120kmph, towing a car trailor, with a trunkload of gold ingots.. yes, I could see a swaybar being a "safety concern", but something tells me you have some other things to be worrying about. Also, if they were a safety issue, I believe they would be mandatory front and rear, but even nowadays you can buy just about any vehicle without a rear swaybay - why? - because it's for the ride quality, not to save your life.

I drove home and noticed very little with it off. I tried to put it back on, but the bushing are worn and the mounting gear is.. well "slightly" bent.. ok ok... it reallllllly bent.. anyone want to sell me theirs?

Well, just for the record, i had the same problem... Maybe we sould make a complain to subaru about this problem, and maybe they will have to collect all the justys for fixing this factory problem! ;D LOL Just remove it, and... no more swaybar problem! I can garantie you that! LOL

i have some mounting gear i would sell for $10 and you pay shipping. i prefer not having the sway bar. its extra weight, drags on everything, and doesn't change the ride in my opinion.

I noticed the same thing on my Justy last time I was underneath. I'll just run the car without it, not like I'm autocrossing or anything.
