Im just wondering if anyone here has a clear picture of the 4x4 rear suspension setup? Just curious how the control arms attached to the rear, such as the angle, number of them, so forth so on.
Im looking for a small car to use as a daily driver and maybe to play more in later. Possibly do a motor swap in and such.
Also, Ive noticed a lot of talk of the struts, how long are they?
Thanks.

Thank you very much.
So looking it is a IRS even with the 4x4. My nephew had a 2wd version till the crank pulley detached itself from the crank. Is the 2wd and 4wd suspension the same other than the fact that there is a rear diff on it? Or is it a complete different suspension mount in the center that carries the diff? Worked with Festivas and some Metros/swifts, but the whole Justy is a new car to me. May go pick up a haynes later and take a gander.

No, a boxer will not fit in a Justy.

I have wondered this myself. They look the same except I don't know if the center piece has the mounting bosses for the differential. I know the hubs are different and the 2WD cars don't have the pneumatic lines for the 4WD system. If you are thinking about converting a 2WD to 4WD, it's definately cheaper and easier to just buy a 4X4 vehicle to start with. You're talking about different transmission, rear end, 4X4 ECM, 4X4 hubs/brakes and of course the pneumatic lines. Too much work. I can save you the trouble of looking for a Haynes manual though as I know for fact they never made one. I even contacted Haynes myself. Your best bet is to scan eBay everyday and buy factory Fuji books when they come along. For awhile there they were common, now I don't see 'em very much. Thank god I bought three of them!

On the differences between the FWD and 4WD rear suspension. The following pieces are the same: 1) Lower control arms (R & L) 2) Trailing arms & trailing arm mounting brackets (R & L) 3) Rear anti sway bar and attachment brackets 4) Rear strut assemblies (R & L) 5) Rear brake shoes, brake hard wear, and backing plates. (R & L) The following parts are different: 1) Rear knuckle assembly (R & L).. (4WD uses Knuckle and axle shafts..FWD uses a Knuckle/spindle) 2) Rear brake drums (R & L) 3) Rear supporting member (this is the attachment point for the lower control arms and diff unit.) NOTE: This is a "Bolt In" member and can be swapped to convert a FWD vehicle to a 4WD. 4) Front diff stabilizer assembly..(Center portion bolts to the front of the diff and the right and left side bolt to the vehicle frame. Note: The coil springs will interchange but the spring rates are different between the 4WD and FWD cars. The above list applies to the Gen 2 (89-94) Justys. The Gen 1 (87-88) cars are similar. If you plan to convert a FWD to a 4WD it can be done but it is a lot of work If you plan to do it, use parts from the Generation Justy you have (87-88) or (89-94) Good Luck! Jim

How extravagant! Would you be interested in selling one? I'm pretty unimpressed with the Chilton's Subaru workshop manual I bought on eBay.

Yeah, Chilton is Latin for worthless. I don't know if I'm willing to part with any of my books. I still haven't got one for an EFI Justy yet. I don't mean to be a hog but these things are essential and I'm in the Justy game for good.

Great info.....in the thought of being a complete nutcase I have thought of a wrecked STI and combining it with a Justy.
Feasable??? Not sure, Doable, We'll see. Would end up being a driver, and autox car. Want to see if I could make it competetive out there on a national level.
