You can probobly get away with just replacing it. It is a fairly easy fix and you can pick up a shaft from O'reilly's for about 70 bucks. There are known problems with the replacments shafts I have had on new shaft that started clicking right after install and two remanufactured shafts that were machined wrong and the bearings didn't fit so check the shafts before you buy them. There is also a thread here subarujusty.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=trouble&action=display&thread=1782 about the clicking.

While it is common for a front drive axle to click (when the boot is torn) it is very uncommon for that axle to fail 'under normal driving conditions'. To test this add wheel bearing grease to the joint (sic) in question and test drive it to check for noise. Lood Guck

Standard disclaimer applies. Knowledge is power, looks good from my house, if you like it; I love it, turn up the stereo and the noise will go away, and I did not know that was your sister.
