I am going to measure up my 82 Rabbit scheduled for crush to see if the struts might fit in the Justy in any way/shape/form. Cutting & welding a possibility.
I am seeking clearance and hoping struts fit but are taller I will look at a 2" lift kit or my own construction since no one wants to make one. I am running 175/75-13 winters and will stay with 13" for a long time.
Anyone tried, measured, or considered this? At this point I just need to know if there's any reason for sure that it won't work. If I can't find one then I will salvage most of Rabbit suspension before my old Cowbriolet goes to pasture.

I haven't heard of this procedure... but curious why you plan on crushing your rabbit?? I'm a vw fan... Our cowcar Rabbit Cowbriolet convertible was a great car for over 5 years! I owned it during my "poverty days" when my son was young and it was never maintained. In Canada it's worth about $5,000 all pretty and it would cost that much to get it there. We own 2 RV's, 2 DD Justy's, just crushed our parts Justy, so there is no room for our old cowcar. The reason we switched from Rabbits to Justy's was simply 4*4. We checked into 4*4'ing our Rabbit but it was not worth it. So we shopped for the right new car line and love the Justy's. Our Justy's are both being rebuilt this year. One is special and evolving into an adventure car. We honestly are not that far along on the cars but have built a portable 12 * 30 garage and added air including impact wrench. Smallest cherry picker & engine stand we could find (cheap). Soon modest paint & sandblasting cabinet will be operational. My car (Puddle Jumper) will be painted like a holstien cow even before he has a running engine. Now that it's warm out we are working on my Justy every day. This Justy blew up a SUBARU DEALER REBUILT engine after 5 months so this time we are doing it ourselves! The neighbor is likely to buy the engine & windshield before scrap and "Mulder" will live in our hearts forever!

For the VW, not that ambitious. Haven't found any struts yet.

If you're going back to the original post, (rabbit struts on justy), then from what I see of the two struts sitting side by side (justy and rabbit) the rabbit struts are waaaay bigger. Not much hope there I am afraid.

Right now I am leaning towards the post where someone took off the struts and drilled a 1/8 inch hole towards the top, put in some motorcycle shock oil, and capped it. That should stop the squeeking for now. I would love some coilovers. Then I could do some jumping. If I ever figure out how to do that I will post the info.

For the rear, that's where the big squeeks happen. I wouldn't want to jump it the way it is.
