So I found this area to be a problem on an Outback. Sure enough, same problem with the Justy. Dirt & debris get in from the cowl and the fenders, and settle into the area between fender and splash shield. All this junk then decomposes/rots/build-ups, and potentially rusts the Justy. Removal is really simple: -Unscrew the phillips-head screws on the bottom of the mudflaps. -Then you can get at the small 10 or 12 mm (I think) bolts holding the bottom of the fender on. Undo the bolt/s. -You can then pry the bottom of the fender out enough to get at the dirt. -Pry dirt out with something non-metallic, as you don't want to give rust a place to work from the inside out! Gross! If I was still in the northeast US, this would've killed my fenders! Oh, the Justy is a couple pounds lighter now, so it should go much faster! It's like I added a couple HP or something!

Yeah, esp. if you're an offroad mud-eating crazed lunatic!! I recently had the plastic cowl off my Justy (I have to replace windshield) and found a ton of pine needles, a few decomposed mice and other detritus under there ...I can imagine what's inside my fenders...rust is a factor here in NE, so that's next project. -RM
