finally got some pics of my justy up. i bought it last october with 49,000 miles. everything runs great. i only had to change the brake pads, pitch stopper, and driver's cv axle (almost didn't make it home from tahoe). took it up to tahoe this season a couple of times, blew through chain restrictions no problem. even busted through a couple of 3ft. snowbanks the plow left in front of the driveway. i finally got her washed and waxed, and it rained the next day. next plans are to save up and buy some new front seats, build a brush guard for the front (with lights), rims, and a new stereo. with this economy i think it will be a little while. got some pics of the engine, an interior shot, and my new passenger mirror!

What kind of gas mileage are you getting?
Any pics of the engine?

i'm getting around 30mpg. mostly because of stop and go traffic. i bought it in mckinleyville (just north of arcata/eureka). i bought it from the 2nd owner who only used it to drive to town every week or so. i'll get some pics of the engine this weekend.

Is it carbed or fuel injected?
What kind of service records or documentation did you get with it?

it's efi. the only things i found in the car were a work order for replacing the oil pan gasket at 18000 mi. that and the original manual.

it's efi. the only things i found in the car were a work order for replacing the oil pan gasket at 18000 mi. that and the original manual. Where are my manners...welcome to the forum and congratulations on your recent purchase. You have come to the right place. So the point of my questions and what I am leading up to is that the Justy has a 5 numeral odometer. It looks like you got a very nice Justy, but honestly it probably doesn't have 49,000 miles on it. I am not dis-ing your car or you in any way. This is just something that many new Justy owners that have bought "low mileage" need to understand about their car. It's kind of a pet peeve of mine, more specifically, people who sell Justy's as <100k miles when they know it's not, are what bug me. The kid I bought my '88 from tried telling me it only had 36K on the clock. My Justy looked WAY, WAY worse than yours though, so I was not fooled. I was lucky to drive it 25 miles home under it's own power. So like I said before, I am not dis-ing your car. An efi model with 49k on it should get much better mileage than 30 mpg even in stop and go traffic. The person you bought it from may have honestly thought they were buying a low mileage Justy from the 1st owner, and passed it on to you that way, but one of the two previous owners was lying. A nineteen year old fuel efficient car with 49k on it can certainly exist, but not usually with two (or more) owners. That's usually reserved for the elusive "little old lady" single owner. I have emailed CarFax about this issue, and they said they have no way of verifying actual mileage. They just compile computerized records based on VIN #( Those records may, however, contain odometer readings). There advice was to have the vehicle inspected by a licensed mechanic for wear. I don't want you to think I am diminishing your sweet new ride, but realistically it probably has 149k on it. I am sure mine has 236k on it. In 51,000 miles your car will show zero miles on the odometer. Most people get mad at me when I tell them this about their Justy because "they just know" their car has less than 100k, even if their engine is about to throw a rod. So take this how you will, you got a sweet machine regardless of mileage. But if you ever decide to sell it, please be honest with potential buyers about what you now know about these cars. P.S. We should have a new Justy owner orientation section on this forum.

Thanks for saying what I was thinking Ferox. Not to sound pessimistic, but 49k does seem too good to be true, although it can happen. As to why manufacturers only had 5-digit odometers is beyond me. Maybe they didn't have faith that their cars would get passed 100k miles? Either way, it is very misleading and lots of people have been fooled. It's actually scary how many ads I see for 15-20yo cars that state that they only have 30k or 40k miles. Obviously either the seller is lying or just doesn't know any better. I had a friend who bought a '93 Ford Ranger thinking it only had 96k miles. After he bought it in a rush, I ran a Carfax and it turned out having 296k miles!

i thought that it might have 149000 when i saw the odometer, but seeing how clean the car is (and having been to the mckinleyville/arcata area before, there is not a lot of driving to do. everything is within 20miles or so.) i think the car does have actually 49000. i'm not an expert but i have never seen a car in that good of shape at 149000. all of the wear on the seats looks like it was sun damage and not repeated use. as far as the mileage, i do kind of have a lead foot and regularly push it past 4000rpms (which from reading the board is where seems a lot of the gas goes).
the guy i bought it from drove it maybe 20miles a week. he bought if from the original owner who put most of the miles on it who happened to be an old lady.
thanks for your reply though, i appreciate the help and the board very much. as for being honest with the next buyer? i think i'll be the last owner of this justy (in the unlikely event though, i would be completely upfront about the mileage and where it may or may not be at).
i'll post some pics of the engine and interior this weekend, maybe that will shine a little light this mystery

Funny thing about that 99999 odo. The place I bought my Justy from thought it had 210,000 miles. The odo only read 21000. They just looked quick and assumed it was a 6-digit odo, not realizing it was only 5. There was an old receipt in the glovebox with the previous owner's name on it. I called up, and found out it was 121000, & that it had a new clutch!
Car was "priced to sell" since it had such high miles @ 210k!
Sometimes you luck out with the 5 digit odo!

i think i'll be the last owner of this justy Nice! That's what we like to hear. Thanks for not getting mad at me. As you learn more about the Justy engine and such and start replacing parts you may get a better idea of what your actual mileage is. For now though, it's a very nice example of a Justy. The condition reminds me a little of this one: portland.craigslist.org/mlt/cto/1082581503.htmlLooking forward to more pics. Side note: I once saw a '94 4-door Justy in the junkyard with a 6 numeral odometer.

Wow - nice Justy - and in my favorite color no less! I bought my Justy in Oakland back in '06 (I think) and it also had 49k original miles on it, verified by paperwork and the owner's story. Her grandparents used the car only on trips where they would tow it behind their RV. They claimed that around 25-30k of the miles were tow miles. The car itself reflected that, the brake/clutch and gas pedals looked like new. With every part replaced (struts, fuel filter, axles, etc), it was easy to see that none of the bolts had ever been turned. The car also had a tow bar on the front, which I removed as it was heavy and affected the handling. Just here to say, it can happen. I just sold my Justy (never thought that would happen) a few weeks ago, with 64k original miles. It just had it's "60k service" at Subaru of Santa Cruz - the whole team came out to check it out as some of them had never seen one. Congrats on your car and I hope you never feel the urge to sell it. Mine had been just sitting for a couple months except when I would drive it because I felt bad. I took it on some trips - to Quincy, LA and a few other places, used it for mountain biking (has roof racks) but then when a friend expressed his undying love for the car and intention to use it for life, it became his very quickly. Now it gets out every weekend for biking and hiking.
