House here, I finally got a pic of my justy. It did have the stock rims but i found some 13" sawblades that fit. I have plans to do a body kit for it as well as a paint job. Just got it running last night. Made me smile when it started up . I have a feeling that this will be a fun little car.

I always thought that those types of wheels (the centre recessed and the rim extending over) were for rear wheel drive! Does it matter whether centre is recessed or protruding?

ok, here is the latest update. I got the rims at a junk yard. dont know what the make is other than that they are called sawblades. did some work on it today and found out that the carb is good so i dont have to replace it for the moment. What I did find out was that there is about an inch of gunk built up on the fuel tank and there is some rust in it. Now I have to find a replacement tank. Does anyone have any lead or contacts that i can use to get a tank, thanks. So far it has been a frustrating experience but i still have high hopes

Ok, time for another update. My justy is now tagged and legal. I ran into a problem with the wheels. It seems that my struts are shot and possibly the springs too. I keep bottoming out on bumps and dips in the road. I've put some spring spacers in for a temp fix until my new struts get here. Gas milage is around 45-50 mpg. Just replaced the carpet matts with some new ones. I get a lot of comments about it, most ask why I put rims on such a small car, I tell them that it was a good buy and its different. As far as I know, I have the only one in town. Its a bit loud going through the gears but I think that is one thing I wont be able to fix, but thats ok. My next mod I'm looking at doing is a stereo sys. Nothing major just something that will play CD's. Maybe a 200w system. Well thats all for now, thanks for the great info on the site, its been a real help.

**house** I can't tell for sure but it really looks as though your tires are just oversized for the justy. This is the Rub! The stock gl 4wd had a 165/65/13 tire size. Even a +1 diameter will rub in the rear wells (like my car running 175/70/13's), the +1 width will rub in the front when holding a good corner with the stock flair of the front fender. Also the non stock rim may not be the right offset. If you tell me the size of your tires I can help you calculate the sources of rubbing. I have been doing a lot of fitting and measurements for tire and wheel options and could help you. Most likely your struts and dampers are fine. I do believe that the justy could use firmer springs though (the car is firm with just me, but put a couple of pals in to go golfing and the rub is very pronounced). I have never said hi to you. That's a fine machine you have there -RRJ

Nice to meet ya Red and Tbagg, Ok, the tires are a Hankook 175/70 R13. The source of my tire rub is that the tires extend past the wheel well. I'm figuring on getting out the cutting wheel and trimming about 2" , then building custom fender flares. The new struts are going on just as added insurance. I've seen what you mean about the tire rub when you have more than one person in the car with you. I've also thought about going to a firmer spring.
The one thing that vexes me most about the car is how sloppy the shifter is. Its very loose. I cant tell if it is the bushing or if it is a characteristic of the vehicle. I would love some feedback on that issue.

Yeah, that's a great Justy. You won't need much as far as a stereo is concerned. I had 2 600w 10's and a 400w 12 powered by one 300w and one 600w amp, and I can tell you...hooboy! Not much rattle, either, maybe for the gas lid.

The offset those rims have might cause premature failure of the wheel bearings being that they push the center axis of the wheel outside the bearing center. -just a word of caution. This is the rub spot in my rear well with stock steelies. I was able to remove a great deal of slop in the shifter by replacing my original shift links with links I grabbed from a pick lot, the new ones were just in better shape. I have yet to find good replacement springs for the front. Another forum member **lowryde** subarujusty.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=suspensionmod&action=display&thread=2092 did a honda coil over mod that opens a great deal of spring options. The forum member **89** did some wicked glass-work to add datsun fender flairs to his ride. subarujusty.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=talk&thread=1812&page=1 He starter by cutting away rust and it seems to have snowballed from there, he is able to run bigger wheels with no issues.

I've noticed that my tires are real close to that spot as well. I was thinking that maybe the suspension was a bit off. Now I see that its a justy thing.

Ok, time for an update. Be a bit busy with the new job, but its paying for the repairs. Finally got the shifter sorted out. It seems that the linkage setup has 5 rubber grommets that help keep things in place. We got the linkage removed and found that it didnt have any. Well that has been taken care of and it now shifts like a new car. Also replaced the front wheel bearings and driver side cv axle. No more noise from the tires. Still working on finding some new springs and struts, possibly some new rims and tires. Thinking about going to a low profile tire.
