I need to replace my struts. Does anyone know if there are any struts from other vehicles that will fit the Justy. The back ones in particular are shot. The cost of the OEM's makes it unfeasible for me to buy them. At those costs I may well have to scrap the car because the parts cost more than the market value of the car.

Hi justyfanatic, I am going to fit coilovers onto my car so I had to find a set of extra struts at the front inorder not to ruin the original ones. From a local shop here in Malta I found KYB make them and they are half the price of the origional ones. KYB even have a web site. Hope this helps. Ray

Good day, Thanks much for the info. Do you by chance have the KYB part reference numbers. I will try a search on their site.

Hi justyfanatic, 1) Go to the following url www.kayabaeurope.com/2) Click on CATALOG 3) Click on Subaru from the list 4) Click on Justy, J Series 5) Click on the middle row from the right hand side of the screen. The first row contains struts up to the 88 model. The middle on from 88 to 95 while the last one after 96. The part numbers are the following: Front : 633207L and 633206R Rear : 632077L and 632076R Hope this will help Ray

Hi, thanks Ray. I was able to use the part no.s and order them through a local dealer for KYB. Saves about US$250 off the OEM prices.

ha ha ha ha. Guess why I'm laughing? We took off the original struts today and found out that the d*mn things are made by guess who..........KYB no less. They have the name and part # written on it. That's probably why KYB are the only alternate supplier. They are the OEM manufacturers as well as aftermarket suppliers. Subaru probably sub-contracted the part out to them for manufacture and then just stamps a Subaru label on the package. Japanese industry for you.

KYB has made EVERY strut and shock for Subaru.
KYB makes just about every shock for every Japanese car made.
However. Usually the car manufacturer will sign a contract saying that KYB cannot sell the parts until like 3 years after production, or sometimes not at all.

Just wondering what kind of price you got for them? I know what the OEM ones cost here, and it's not worth it to me.

If KYB made the OEM struts, are they the exact same thing? If so this isn't really a modification, it's just a replacement part. Any thoughts...I am interested in modifications that will improve performance. Any thoughs are appreciated.

heres something, nothing to do with KYB...
Ducati use a company to make some parts for them, for example the oil filter, and they order them in to their shop in bulk orders. they come in the normal packaging but Ducati replace the boxes with ones with their names on it. they then sell the oil filter for around double the price of the 'aftermarket' one - which IS the Ducati one.
so there you go, another un-useful fact from me!! ;D

OEM, KYB same bologna. The KYB 'techs' are just reading out of the 2007-2008 online catalogs... if you get one that sounds like they have any hands on knowledge... have them look in the attic/basement (or in the dumpster ) for the early 90's books. I had NO luck with KYB after 7 emails, 5 phonecalls, and a fax. I even sent over my certificate of authority and tax ID, offering to make a bulk purchase - nothing! I've never ordered bits from 'SubieGal', but some of the members here plug her name all the time? I think she has some of the lowest prices on JUSTY parts including shocks... ask her at www.subiegal.com/Let us know how you make out. Kanpai,

I wouldn't waste your time looking. You're not going to find anything. All the honda parts out there. It doesn't really make sense. At least it's not a daihatsu. They went out of business. More impossible even.

1988blackrs – sorry but you don’t know jack. I already have two sources found for struts for my Justy. Neither was really from this website. I am price / stiffness comparing right now. I’ve got an updated subie interchange part number and now its only a matter of time and a fed ex number. Once I decide on what I’m getting I will post up all my hunting results on here. As for now, yes… I have found some from a unique US distributor, I am still shopping and hunting for more options.

I guess I (just(y)) drove around all those years in my old dl with worn shocks for nothing then. The rears are the worst when you haul a lot of stuff all the time. Nice with a bouncy squeaky shock My friends would get to call me cheap. I think I read a post a while back where someone drilled a hole in the top of the rear shock and added 90 weight or something and plugged it back up and said that worked well. What else can you do? I would like to know a definative answer. I would buy the stiffest shocks if there is a choice of 2.

What strut/shock results did this new wave of power searching and/or tough talk produce? Did you make any parts progress with 'Subie Gal'? Enquiring 3 Bangers want to know,

Daihatsu didn't go out of business. They were purchased by Toyota and have pulled out of several markets do to poor sales.
