I got a 91 2wd 1.2l. Justy of course. I am alomost done replacing the ecvt trans w/ a manual. I want to make it 4wd also but here is my question. Are there any different gear ratios in the rear differentials or can i just get a trans from say a 89 and the rear end from a 91. I am having trouble finding complete drivetrain so i might have to mix and match thats why i was asking.

I have a 3 rear diffs, an 88 5spd, 90 5spd and 91 ecvt. 88 wont mount onto a 91 crossmember (that I'm aware) -Terry

FYI, the parts manual I have shows one part number, 38300 KA170, 88-94 for the 4x4 Rear Dif. The 88' FSM shows no 4x4 available , '88 & '89 FSM only shows one rear diff w 3.7 final. Gears ratios for 5spd trans from FSMs are : 1987/ 1988/ 1989 1- 3.071 all 2- 1.695 all 3- 1.137 all 4- 0.823/0.771/0.794 5- 0.675/0.631/0.675

I have never compared side by side but I do know that 2nd generation uses an extra xmember. I'll get pictures one day. -Terry

the 88 and 89 FSM do show different front/forward and rear differential mounts (fig 10 in ch 3-4) However- the rest of the special tools used to hold it on the bench are the same, and the pictures lead me to say the mounting on the Gen2 years is just better bracing on the same differential.

So what you're saying is, my 1st gen and 2nd gen 5speed diffs are the same? That would be cool. Would mean I have 2 extras for my car.. plus the one its currently using. Anyone need a 91 ECVT rear end? -Terry

Packrat is an understatement. You have no idea how many parts I actually have. Well, consider this. I have an 88 parts car, overflowing with 1st and 2nd gen parts (filling the interior) in addition to a 5'x4'x4' cabinet full of miscellaneous parts. Plus enough connections in the used parts industry to obtain just about anything.. FYI I'm aware this has nothing to do with the original post, I just need to brag! ;D -Terry
