hey everyone,
i recently failed emissions and i have one day left to pass. i ahve an 89 carbed 4wd 2dr 5spd.
it failed at cruise emissions on Carbon monoxide. as i understand it its running rich. can anyone help me with how to lean it out a little?

Check to make sure that the choke is adjusted correctly and not closed all the time. Also the float might be djusted wrong or the needle and seat that the float works could be leaking. Spray some carb cleaner down the running engine carburator.

i tried that....
is tehre an upper cat? like one thats just off the exhaust manifold? i thought there was but when i got in there mine was hollow....that big canister looking thing thats like 10 inches from the block.

is there supposed to be soemthign in that upper one? should it look like a normal cat? tha whole honey combed thing in it? or should i be able to stick my hand through it?

Sounds like somebody did what I just did to mine cause it was half plugged up. So yes the big cylinder right beside the engine that is part of the exhaust manifold from the head is a cat. It should be full of as you call it that honeycomb stuff.
