Hey guys, I went to get in the Justy this morning. Backed out of the driveway and when I went to shoved it into 1st it didn't engage and I could hear what sounded like the gears not quite engaging but grinding. Now, I get that in any gear including reverse. It had been grinding more frequently going into 2nd, but I figured that was just a synchro going bad. The car is pretty worn and the motor mounts are really loose. As soon as I can get it into my barn I'll put it up on the lift and see if I spot anything obvious, but I thought you guys might want to give me some suggestions of where to start. I saw the other thread about transmission problems and it apears to be a similar problem, but not quite the same.
It is a 1990 2WD
thanks!

the 2nd gear grinding is solved by the pitching stopper bushes wearing at the ends causing the engine to pitch as the load is taken off it causing the gear linkage to become unaligned??? mmy first reaction would be to check the clutch cable, and probably the easiest but that doesnt explain the grinding. does the gearstick feel like it has the same amount of throw into each gear? the next thing to check i suppose is the gear linkage. iirc someone had a problem with a bush falling out which would make sence as the gearstick would move the correct amount but not move the rest of the linkage sufficiently and then not engage the gear properly causing the grinding noise. sorry just thinking aloud! Good luck EDIT: found you the link subarujusty.proboards20.com/index.cgi?board=trouble&action=display&thread=1178805792
