Anybody have any ideas for really potent gasoline fumes immediately when you open the driver/passenger windows? Ever since I've been driving the Justy, any time I crack open a window the cabin is -filled- with gasoline fumes, not exhaust. My mechanic says he checked are there are no apparent leaks, the only spot I noticed any kind of gas was after the car was sitting in my driveway, right underneath the fuel cap/fill area, a tiny spot of gas on the ground... The fumes are bad enough to irritate the eyes and make you kind of woozy, so sometimes I just wind both windows all the way down to get air flow.
Any ideas where I could check for this problem? Chances are, if I smell gas, its gotta be seeping/leaking somewhere. Fuel Filter? Fuel Lines? aren't the fuel lines all internal (or so I read somewhere)

I am almost sure the fuel lines run under the carpet on the driver side right along the door ledge.

Interesting, strange how the smell would only rise after opening the windows though. I'll check the floor asap

If you have a carb jobby your fuel filter is down under the gas fill area. Since you saw some evidence of leakage there, prolly a good place to check.

If all else fails, remove the lower portion of the back seat. take a look at the recent post by: formulaphoto in the rally & justy section. this will give you access to most of the fuel lines and bits leading to and from the tank. There is a 3 inch round cover which gives access to the fuel tank if you were gonna drop it out.Find the problem and soon or you might find that you are in the obituaries sooner than you expected!.

Haha yeah. I just cleaned out a garage that I can use (woooo) and as soon as I get a day off work I'll park the Justy in and take a look. I'm actually kind of hoping there is some kind of apparent leak from the fuel pump, because at least then I -know- what it is...

Yea, about a month or two ago I took my Justy into the ditch, the day immediately after I started smelling fuel in the car. This was strong as soon as I stepped into the car after it was sitting all night. However, I had the car checked extensively for leaks, none found, and the smell isn't there anymore, so I really don't worry about it. One thing I do like about these cars, is that everything is well protected under the car, all the lines are under some metal. On my old car (89' Bonneville SSE) everything was in a spot that is easily vulnerable to scrapes.
