My Justy has always grinded a little going in & out of 2nd gear. I just replaced " pitching stopper" which is a rod on top of engine, with steel round ends & rubber bushing inserts, inside. This rod mounts to engine & other end at firewall. Mine had worn out bushings. I ordered one from " Subiegal " installed & shifting is much smoother.

The part listed for almost $90, & they sold it to me for $65. Look closely at the rubber bushings in the end & if you can see " light" thru them, it is bad.

Hopefully this pix works. Part is called " Rod Assembly, pitching stopper" & there are several different part #'s for different Justys. You can reply with a post & description of your Justy, & I'll give you the part number, or just go to the link in my earlier post to look up the part. Interesting, I never would have suspected this to cause shifting issues, guess it must be something to do with the motor twisting while trying to shift and messing up the way the linkage works?

Backwood== Huh ?? I don't understand what you are saying. Anyway, I do believe that the worn part does cause the trans to shift poorly, because of excess movement of the motor, etc. Before changing it, I had someone pull up the parking brake, & put in 1st & then reverse, & slowly let out clutch a little. Then, I did the same thing after changing out the part. There is a good 1/2" less movement, each way, now. This must have been binding the trans, clutch, linkage, etc., causing the poor shifting. Either way, It is shifting much better after the replacement.

what part don`t you understand ? you told me that if i give you description of my justy, you can tell me the part number....and i told you its a 1992 year GL 1.0 (carburetor) model. but i think that the part number won`t do me anything here in my country but i can still give it a try

I didn't understand the rod not being from a Justy, but a train ??Maybe a little language difference. Null problemo !! Anyway,, the part # for Rod assembly, pitching stopper, is 7410 40280. This is from Subaru parts manual & is for a '93 Justy. [ I used same part number.] I still have my old one & can take measurements of it, if it will help you.

So where exactly on the engine is this rod? I have an 89 FWD 1.2 carbed manual tran Justy with the same exact shifting symptoms, and I cannot seem to locate anything under my hood that looks anything like that rod you're holding in the picture. Any Ideas? Different models?
Thanks for any assistance

as one is looking under the hood/bonnet standing with the radiator in front of you -it should be just to the right of the intake. the large end bolts to the top of the engine and the small end bolts to the firewall. at least that is where it is on my '91 5mt.
I bought a "universal" one off eBay and put it in. works fine. I think he was advertising it for a Honda Civic. they all list the measurements/ lengths.

Sorry to bring up an old thread but did anyone else have success with this mod?
My 1988 DL Justy which I bought new has always had the dreaded 2nd gear grind and also sometimes 1st gear grind since new.
I've looked under the hood and cannot see this dog bone. Did this exist in 1988?
