Okay, so I'm running 175/70r13's. which (according to the tire size calculator) would throw me off about 5.6%. Even still, I'm only getting about 26mpg. My girlfriends VR6 jetta gets better mileage than that, and it has 174hp!

have you checked your engine codes? plug in the plugs under the dash and see if your engine light blinks anything at you. maybe there is something wrong and it isn't bad enough to turn on the check engine light under normal driving?

i dont want to state the obvious, but have you checked your tyre pressures?!! i find that if mine go below 26psi i notice a significant difference - especially when on the motorways. i normally pump them up to 29, the book says 28 on 165/65/13's. sometimes i go upto 30psi but in the wet its a bit weird and im not sure if i like it that way. otherwise, check the spark plugs - i normally go through a couple of sets a year

Mine is a '86 2wd 1l.carbed 5speeder and runs on 12" thin road tires, which shoud not affect the fuel consumption. But despite all my gas saving efforts i cannot squeeze more than 20MPG (12l/100km.My mechanic blames it on the carb.He says that it's so worn out that the butterfly valves rattle and do not close completely and also that almost all (if not ALL)of the vacuum correctors are busted...New sparks didnt help.Strange,i tryed to find the highest consumption, sporty driving on high revs and smoking tyres, guess what : same result 12/100.How on earth does this carb work anyway?

On a short return trip this morning, on highway with some steep grades (the Malahat, north of Victoria BC), my 1989 Justy 5 spd got 37.5 mpg (Imperial gallon, not US gallon) or 7.5L/100 km. This is the best I've recorded. I get 30-33 mpg around Victoria. I keep the tires at 32 psi, use regular, cheap gas, and drive carefully. I'm hoping that the next tune-up will elevate my fuel economy to 40 mpg in town. Peter

I have been tracking my fuel economy on my current Justy over the last couple of months, and it had averaged 37mpg (imperial). This is with winter studded tires, so when I get around to putting on some summer/all seasons, typically this improves it a couple of mpg. FYI, off topic, I saw in a recent Walmart flyer where they had just had a price drop on their cheapo all season tires, $29 canadian per tire installed 12" tires (not balanced). super cheap.

Yesterday I did around 400 miles on a round trip - 43MPG average, I'm impressed, especially considering I was thrashing the poor car on the way back at 75-90MPH and the rest of it was on tricky country roads.

Hey Milford, Is your Justy FI or carb? 5 spd or ECVT? Imperial or US gallons? That's awesome mileage you recorded. Peter

FI, 5-speed manual. I guess it must just be in decent tune, and UK gallons are a bit bigger than US gallons!

mine is a 89 carbed 1.2 4wd, i was getting about 31-32 to the gallon every time until 2 weeks ago i changed the distribtor cap, rotor ar, HT leads and set the timing to 5 degrees BTDC and the difference is amazing, not only does it fly compared to before, but the last tank i got 37.5 mpg and i wasnt hanging about trying to make it go further.
