Have a 1994 Justy, I just bought & the brakes in front rattle. I cannot find anything wrong with them, but going down a road they will rattle. Slightly apply brake pedal & it stops.Pads calipers, all are tight & look fine. Any ideas??

Normally, they have some stainless steeel shims in between the pad and the caliper. Check if they are there. It would rattle without them.

It also has a set of anti-rattle clips that the pads move on in the caliper grooves. These are supposed to be tight. They wear out over time but will only be gotten when you buy a new set of Genuine Subaru pads. Most people keep reusing the old ones over and over again.
Also check the dustshield/backing plate for the rotor although if this was loose it wouldn't stop rattling when you step on the brakes.

Thanks for the replies. I will pull caliper & take a look. Where is the best place to get the new pads with clips & all other hardware?

Not sure with your side of the world. Subaru should have a regional dealer for your area. I was told by our local Subaru dealer that they should be able to order any Subaru part from catalogue even if the cars are out of production. They could get it in a few days. That's where I would start. Prepare yourself for some ridiculous prices though.

I use the same shims with aftermarket brake pads, but they last for one or two sets only, so next comes the time to buy original Subaru pads, which cost big $$$!
