I have a 1988 Subaru Justy 2WD, when i shift from first to second gear it makes a slight grinding noise as if the teeth are misaligned. The problem only occurs if the gear shift is angled to the left. If i pull straight down or to the right alittle the noise doesnt occur. What could the problem be?

mine did that a little on fast 1-2 shifts and worse on 3-2 shifts. drained and refilled the transmission with 85w and shifts smooth now. That might fix your problem... also check your clutch adjustment... I had to increase the free play on mine. the repair manual I have quotes 3.5-4.5 mm free play at the clutch fork.

Mine was doing the same & I did much like above post. Make sure clutch is adjusted right, & when I changed trans fluid, I put in a qt. of " Hi-Tach" oil & then filled with 80-90 wt gear oil. Seems like these trans will grind if rpms or speed is too high when shifting.

No matter what we do....after our firts stage its craking in every gear... even whit a "new" tranny as soone as you drive the car a litle bit on the hardcore mode it will start craking...
we tryed everything and the guy hoo built my justy even talk whit the subaru canada people...and there is noting to do .
the good part is that once all the syncro are busted...it will not get worst and its trouble free....our tranny ad over 20 rally in her and its the transfer case that broke...it ad noting to do whit the gears really...
Plus i like the noise it make...sound verry sporty...almost like a dogbox tranny... VRAAaaaaAAAAAAmmmmMMM CRAK!!! vvVVVVVRRRAAAAMMM CRACK!!!! VrrrVvvvvRrrrrAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMMMMM!!!!!! KERACK!!!! ;D
