Hello all!
Well to clear the air, the great news is that I still have the Justy! ANNDDD... I still love her (perhaps more than ever!).
I just put stainless lines on the front and went with Raybestos calipers (I couldn't figure out the math on the Wilwoods). While down there, I got to thinking about how I want to rethink my winter setup.
I am currently running 145/70R13s on Nissan Sentra SE-R rims mainly because they are superlight and "cut" through the snow better... Now I am thinking I want to get as close to that 23" maximum for ground clearance while trying to stay as narrow as possible... which means I will likely be looking into 175/65R14s because I could use every bit of lift I can get.
That being said, I was also thinking about an offroad setup. I will not be interested in swapping out calipers/rotors but I was wondering if anyone has ever squeezed 12s onto a 13 setup (I know it is popular to go the other direction)... I know the rule-of-thumb with offroaders is to have the rim be half of the wheel diameter, and also I was reading on the Impreza555.com spec list that the rotors to rim ratio is between 80-82% where our spec 240mm is 73% (13s) and 79% (12s). It seems to be that the limiting factor is the caliper, no? What do you all think? Here's the specs of the Subaru Impreza 555 if you are interested:
Surface Front Rotor Front Caliper Rear Rotor Rear Caliper Rim Width Rotor:Rim
Tarmac 366 6 pot 304 4 pot 18 8 80.05%
Gravel 304 4 pot 304 4 pot 15 7 79.79%
Snow 330 4 pot 304 4 pot 16 5.5 81.94%
GL 240 na na 13 5 72.68%
12 240 na na 12 78.74%
