Still a Justy

Post by nate on Jul 14, 2015 19:11:18 GMT -5
...a Justy that can keep up with the best of them (with almost bald rear tires). :-D
Forgot to mention I came in 9th out of 11, only because my clutch started to slip the last three runs so lost my momentum about half way. However, still made it farther than any of the others getting stuck that day. I count that as a win when you go farther than a few Toyotas and Jeeps! :-)
Which brings up the question... Has anyone found a "grippier" clutch than the normal over the counter brands, or have had one custom made? (Or should I ask this in another thread?)

I just put an exedy clutch in mine, much better than the luk I had in there. I used to have problems with the clutch overheating and slipping towards the end of rallyx heats. I only have one event on the exedy, but that problem seems to have gone away.
I would suspect that yours may be getting a bit wet, the bottom of the bell housing isn't sealed all that well.
Also, years ago there were "racing" clutches on ebay. They're not there anymore and I'm not sure who made them.

Looks killer! With stock tires I'm having issues on the steep hills (45 degrees or greater). I don't see how its turning the tires!! LOL. Friends want me to buy a UTV But i keep trying to make the justy a little more offroad friendly

Love your Justy! I was thinking about cutting some doors like yours or building tube doors. It looks good!

2ND Place finish! Not too shabby from the only one that day who drove his racer home! Hard to beat purpose built rigs. This is how it looks next to a stock Justy. That's my poor parts car. :-( Too much wrong to put him back on the road. ...but his sacrifice allowed me to do this... Can you say... Traction!

Rear only?

Yep. Really easy to remove the rear diff without having to remove the rear hubs. Different story removing and getting into the transmission. 😱
Definitely NOT for daily driving! Even in 2wd the rear tires chirp around corners and there is noticeable oversteer. Took me about hour or so to swap them out (once I figured out the process). I'll change them out again now that racing season is over.

BTW... the reason I get stuck is because they run Class 1 (4-6cyl), 2 (small V8), 3 (big V8), 4 (modified, very fast!) and finally Class 5 (diesels). THEN... you switch lanes and do it all over again. So I followed this... 😱. No wonder I got stuck. 😠His tires are as big as my whole car!!!

Your track width probably fits in his as well! Haha. You might end up welding your CV Shafts to your hubs eventually, I think they'll strip with the lincoln locker. Ive stripped one with a open diff
