Ok my lifters are loud. I adjuted them to the specs that the machine shop gave me. My compression is good, so I think the valves are sealing good. So yeah I have a bit of noise it is not buttery smooth. My "lifters" are loud too, even though EF12s don't have lifters[tappets] at all. Justy engines operate with a rocker arm direct to valve but anyway..... Yeah I bought my 2nd Gen1 Justy with 135K on the clock and a very noisey top end. I have 168K four years later and no troubles at all. I believe that the loudness is from either a worn rocker inside-diameter or else a worn spot on the rocker shaft. Either way I believe it is excessive play letting the rocker arm hop around a little bit and therefore, noisey. I bought a spare engine and a new clutch three years ago, ready to go in at the drop of a hat whenever that noisey SOB grenades but she just keeps going & going & going. I swear, as long as you do the basic maintenance and keep the oil level topped off at all times, these little jewels take a 4000RPM licking and keep on ticking...over. [tickover]<---that's UK slang

I would say removing anything will help out greatly. Some of those bolts can be a real hassle to get at.

I suppose I should chime in and recomend putting a jack stand under the tranny to help prevent it from sagging.

Fantastic work, Coal! Thanks so much for documenting that whole process, it's really super, super helpful for greenhorns like myself. I hope your car is working great. I know that this is a very old thread.. Thanks for the great tour!
