Some new updates from today... I've got some seats and belts for the car now (even colour matched!), and finally got the floor cleaned of all the sound mat and painted. The seats are getting mounted this week, along with a roll bar. I'm not going to put a full cage in the car at this point...I can always add the front section later if I want. I think I'll be making some new mounting brackets for the steering column to move the wheel lower too. Long list of "to-do's"!

Mmm... good progress... are you keeping the interior white or is that a base/primer? Keep us posted,

I'll be keeping it white.
Ok...I think I'm slightly crazy, but I just sold my 2006 impreza wagon and will be getting my Justy on the road! hehe.

Big progress today! The rollbar and seat mounts are complete! Here are a couple pics of the rollbar...I'll have more later once the car is back at home.

nice work! you are obviously a better welder than me, i can do strong welds, or nice looking welds, just not both, so i went for strength when making my rollcage. i see you used the corners of the rear bench to mount the rollcage where i used the rear footwells, any reason? i know the bench seems stronger, just a little close to the fuel tank for my liking. i welded some big reinforcment plates under to floorpan.

sorry, when you make your seat mounts, could you possibly post pictures up as i want to re make mine to possibly get the seat a bit lower. i like the idea of a lowered steering angle too.

It was a last minute push to get it done, but the Justy is running again! A few more things to sort out in the morning before she hits the road for the first time in a year, but we had the motor installed and running again tonight. I leave for the Pacific Forest Rally tomorrow at noon (shooting photos, not competing!)...so the car is going to get a long 5 hour shakedown over the Coquihalla mountain pass! Crossing my fingers she makes it. Some pics... Finished interior (the front section still has some details to finish up and the side panels of the interior will have plastic panels covering the holes): Seats and belts are installed. I still need to attach the 6-point belts: The engine goes back in! Finished seat mounts. The seats are bottom-mount (the holes are in the bottom). I thought the system Rocket Rally implemented was a pretty cool way to make it easier to install and remove the seats. There are two pieces of horizontal flatbar screwed into each seat bottom, and then those flatbars are screwed into the seat rails - in a more convenient location to get at. You can also add spacers to tilt the seat back. Co-driver's seat mounts: Driver's Seat Mounts:

Yeah, Boss! I see you use your windshield as an organizational dry erase board too! I think this has already been confirmed, but just for the record do ya sit a little bit higher with those Sparcs? Look forward to your Pacific photos... for anyone that doesn't know this guy has an ultra-keen eye for motion shots (motorsports and pedalsports). Yup,

The seats are a little lower...probably only about 1/2 an inch...but the actual seat has less padding than a stock seat, so the seating position is quite a bit lower. It's a nice position, but I still need to modify the steering column angle for it to be perfect.

good idea! think i may do similar, mine sits ever so slightly higher than standard, whch is ok, but the seats are a pain in the ass to get in and out. let us know how you get onwith the steering column angle.

Well, last Thursday was a long night as Dave and I got the motor back in the car and everything hooked up. Motor fired first crank, which was a positive sign! I spent another hour packing, and then went to bed with fingers crossed that the car would pass the test drive in the morning. The car hadn't turned a wheel in over a year, and even though the motor was running, I was a little worried about its road worthiness. Just to add more pressure, I was due to pick up a fellow photographer at the Vancouver airport (an hour away) on our way to the Pacific Forest Rally...a 350km trip through the mountains! So, around 11am - already a little bit late departing - I reversed it out of the driveway, slipped it into 1st and drove off. For about 10 feet. Then I felt a small "pop" and the car lost forward drive. SH-T! Pushing it back into the garage, I thought it was game over for the day. But, we quickly diagnosed that the CV joint we had just rebuilt wasn't together properly, as the halfshaft was spinning in it. Dave did the world's fastest halfshaft removal from a Justy, rebuilt the CV, and with some persuasion from a big hammer, we had things back together in under an hour. I was well late for the airport by the time I backed the Justy out of the driveway for the second time, and said a quiet prayer as I snicked it back into first again. A quick boot around the block seemed to show everything was back in order...it was running! I'm now back from Merritt with over 1000km's travelled over the weekend, including gravel and snow conditions...and the Justy was great! Apart from a check engine light after hammering up a long hill at high revs (knock sensor perhaps?), there wasn't a single problem. My next task is to sort out the brakes though, because there is a huge vibration under braking!

About your brakes...I suspect that once your brake rotors were overheated and warped or at the very least they have what is called heatcheaks on the surface which sometime's can be removed on a brake lathe.

CM decals can be found here: www.imprezarally.com/mcrae/Yeah, the rotors and pads are toast on the car and I expect things to improve once I change those.

Congrats on a rally justy... I wish I had one!. Hope you get your brakes sorted, I recomend some flexible air ducting to the backing plates to help cool your next new rotors!.

I'm really glad to see this build. You have done a great job with that cage and the interior setup.
I would like to do this myself.
Cheers,
Kennith
