I just bought a sweet 91 justy ECVT with 37,000 original miles on her and I have seen some disturbing things about the ECVT tranny. I was wondering if anyone has swapped the ECVT with a 5 speed M/T? How hard would it be to do or is it even possible?

It's a lot of work, but possible. I've done it once myself on a 4x4. It would be a lot easier on a 2wd though. I basically switched eveything out from a 5 speed car into mine, including the rear diff and even the carpet (hole is in a different spot). Not a job for the average person, but doable!

Justyken: If you take out your ECVT I'll but it! ;D
I'm thinking of doing the same with mine. Swap in a 5-speed.

Well, I got the little ECVT running!
All it needed was new brushes! $97.64 later, it's on the road again. ;D

Hey where did you get the stuff to fix your car? I like the way my car drives with the ECVT, but it wouldnt hurt to know where to get the parts to fix her if she breaks either.... dont you think its neat how the tranny dont shift like a normal a/t?

The ECVT tranny is pretty nice if it's working correctly. Some weren't setup correctly right from the factory and therefore didn't shift properly. Factory service manuals are essential to getting everything adjusted right, that and a lot of patients! A buddy of mine has an ECVT in his Justy and I finally got it working pretty slick. VERY smooth and responsive!! The clutch brushes are usually only good for 40,000 miles at the most, so they need to be checked periodically. Hey where did you get the stuff to fix your car? do you know where I can find these brushes on my tranny? I mean the location. Mine now has 39,000 miles on it and I need to check them, before something goes wrong... thanks for your help..

All you need to do is remove the starter (2 bolts), and remove the two screws in the plate under the starter. Lift the assembly out and check the length of the brushes. There should be a line scribed on each brush. There's about 1/2 inch between the line and the tip of the brushes when new. If yours are worn down to the line or more, time for a new set! do you know where I can find these brushes on my tranny? I mean the location. How do you go about changing the brushes after you've identified they are bad?
