Hello everyone!
This post may be a little long so I'll put a TL;DR at the bottom.
I have a 1993 mpfi fwd justy and I recently decided to replace the head gasket. I had been losing a bit of oil and had a lot of white sludge in the oil cap. I probably didn't really need to replace the head gasket but I was bored and thought I would be a fun project.
So I bought a cheap gasket set from eBay and decided to replace the valve stem seals and relap the valves because why not.
So I took the head off, took it all apart, lapped the valves, and replaced the valve stem seals. I put everything back together with the new head gasket and made sure to torque it down to spec. It was a really easy project and I was quite happy with it. but then I started the car it started blowing a lot of white smoke, like an insane amount of smoke. I thought it might be the head gasket I bought was just cheap and crappy or the intake manifold gasket was crappy or the head was warped. so I bought a graphite felpro head gasket from rockauto and a new intake manifold gasket. I didn't want to pay for a machine shop to resurface the head so I bought some 180, 220, and 400 grit sandpaper and a machinist straight edge and a marble tile so I could diy machine the head (I saw someone do this in a YouTube video).
I diy machined the head and there was only a .003 gap around the edges which I didn't think would be to big of a deal because I thought the graphite gasket would seal up any gaps.
I put everything back together with the new gaskets. But it's still bellowing white smoke. I let it run for a few minutes at a higher rpm (probably 2000. Idk for sure I don't have a tachometer) to burn off any coolant that may have gotten into the exhaust but it's still blowing loads of smoke.
I did a compression test and all three cylinders were above 125 (150, 135, 145 if I remember right). I did a coolant pressure test and it held 15psi for 5 minutes (per ericthecarguy's recommendation). I'm not sure what it could be at this point unless the head is cracked or something but it appears to be fine. Is there something I could have missed when putting it back together? Any help is very much appreciated.
TL;DR
My just is blowing loads of white smoke after I changed the head gasket. I have good compression in all three cylinders and the coolant system holds pressure. The head does not appear to be cracked. I'm not sure what to try next. Please help. Thanks.
