Argh where is is Ferox? Amegeddous? Gearheadeh? ohhh for the love of Stacks...
I just realised you have an 89 carbed model, so you are out of my element on the electronics...
But my understanding is the "ignitor" is just a step up transformer... from that figgin computer thingy you have... there should be no other route then straight from ecu to igniter, an no spark cut that I am aware of in the later model Justies... but hey.
Do you have a good Multimeter? I would check signal from the ECU to ignitor while cranking. You should get something. if not?
But this car ran before you did the carb switch right?
Bad grounds you missed?

Yeah I've got a good meter. I triple checked my grounds. They're all hooked up. I believe I was wrong on my last post. The yellow/blue wire seems to go to the tach first and then to the ECU. I unhooked the battery for the day to maybe clear the computer if it is doing something stupid. And yes, I drove the car home and everything seemed fine. The wires coming out of the distributor were almost broken off so I replaced them and the pickup ohms out and produces at least some kind of voltage while cranking.

I'm beginning to wonder if the ECU may be fried. The lack of tach movement while cranking has me wondering.

how would the ECU be fried? It ran before... Unless you recall a bright light "oops" when you were pulling things apart Battery disconnected while pulling stuff? You said it tried to fire too, early on. Is this yours? (the wiring diagram posted here) subarujusty.proboards.com/thread/6450/wiring-diagram

Haha I don't know, man I'm grasping at straws right now. That does look like the correct diagram and coil/ignitor in the picture. I have verified that the white/yellow wire has continuity from the ignitor plug to the ECU. Yes, battery has been out since I pulled it in the garage to tear the old engine out. It did try to fire a couple times and nothing since.

I found a flow chart for the ignition on these things. It says I should have alternating power of less than 2 volts to 7 volts on the white/yellow wire at the ignitor plug while cranking. I've got full battery power with just the key turned on. That seems strange to me. Also just verified continuity of white and black wires from distributor to ECU. I also just discovered that there is continuity between the white/yellow, black/red and black wires on the body harness side of the ignitor plug. That seems wrong. The yellow/blue wire has no continuity to the other three. I peeled the tape back a ways and the wires look perfectly fine. Not melted together or worn through or anything.

I have spark! I stumbled across a post by Armageddous (i believe that's who deserves the credit) regarding the ground wire under/behind the intake that he had forgotten to bolt back onto his intake. I knew I had bolted mine to the firewall, but figured it would be worth a shot to hook it to the intake instead. I wish I'd have tried that a week ago. Now it's just backfiring through the carb a bunch and pissed me off again. I'll try to figure the rest out tomorrow night. What a headache.

I cannot get over that. That one ground being on the firewall instead of the intake just kills me. I did go back in the garage after I cooled off for a minute and it finally started for me. It jumps to 4-5,000 RPM for some odd reason though. I'm pretty positive I didn't miss any vacuum caps so I don't think it's a vacuum leak. I need to mess with the timing. No idea where it's at right now. I'm about to order another carb rebuild kit in case all those backfires messed something up. Matt, I would like to sincerely thank you for all your help. You are truly an asset to the Justy world. I will make it a serious goal to offer any assistance that I can to people on this forum. It's not easy owning a Justy lol. Do you (Matt) go to Wicked Big Meet? I'd love to thank you in person and shake your hand.

No worries. Our numbers few, but force is strong... What did you think? "Ah I'm just gonna bolt this new, never tried carb on and drive home, should take about an hour or so, I'll have her ready for the weekend." Nothing ever goes as well as we hope Dang grounds 'll get ya every time. Strange though, maybe just wasn't grounding well on the firewall? I've never been to wbm... maybe someday. I first started with an '84 gl wagon with low range... was on the usmb, and ferox was there too... I think he had a mid 80's turbo coupe.

Haha I thought the carb would be the problem if anything. Now I know. WBM is an awesome time. I'll get a couple pictures of the old girl on here soon.
