Nice. I figured it had to be pretty low. I still need to figure out the water pump. Haven't really looked yet, but I did see an old thread about upgrading the seal on it. Any insight there? Tomorrow I'll be trying to locate and buy the oil pump parts as well as the balance shaft chain and guide.

Ok I just ordered the oil pump parts kit. I found this: m.ebay.com/itm/Engine-Water-Pump-Kit-NPW-fits-1987-1995-Subaru-Justy-/191656265342?nav=SEARCH Is that all I'll need for the water pump? Also, any idea if the carbureted car valve cover will work on the EFI head or are those different too? I'm anxiously awaiting the new head so I can start mocking up a location for the Harley carb. Hoping like hell I can just use one of the valve covers I already have.

In the carbed engines, the water jacket and the exit point are all integral, you can't just block them off (the coolant leaves the motor through the manifold). Years ago somebody here started doing throttle bodies with the carbed head, and gave up. Now... that's not to say you couldn't adapt a single sidedraft to the stock manifold, but you would need some machine shop time... I sold my Justy but still have throttle bodies and intake manifold project. I can sell them for 100€.

Nice looking setup, Micco. I'm hoping I'll be able to make this Harley carb work, but if not I might be in touch with you lol

My EFI head is supposed to be showing up this evening. Can anyone tell me if the EFI valve cover is the same as on the carbureted engine?

Yep, all good. Go with the cool bling aluminum one... forget black plastic. It's for interiors.

Excellent. You realize you are pretty much THE Subaru Justy resource? Lol I'm sure glad I found this place. Dropping the short block and some other parts off at the machine shop tomorrow. Still have to order a clutch kit. I usually go Exedy with my other Subarus and I found some available for the Justy so that's what I'll be going with unless there's a better option. I know I have more questions, but it's been a long day. More to come tomorrow!

Hey all. I picked up the EFI intake manifold, front cover and valve cover up from being cleaned at the machine shop today. He's still got the shortblock as he's still waiting on the engine kit. I ended up needing a .020 bore and .010 on all the journals. In contrast to the thin walled aluminum Subaru blocks I'm used to, this doesn't concern me. I was finally able to pull the Justy in the garage this afternoon and I took the intake manifold off with the carburetor still attached. I unbolted the charcoal canister and solenoids from the passenger side wheel well as well as the two solenoids or whatever on the firewall and left it all attached to the carburetor/intake manifold. My question to you is how much of that big pile of hoses and crap do I need to retain when I ditch the factory carb? What stays when people do the Weber swap? This Harley carb doesn't have 1000 ports all over it. That really cleaned the engine bay up. Now off to test fit the EFI intake and CV carb.

The 4wd is vacuum operation; you'll need those solenoids... There is a idle thingy you will likely drop. The charcoal can etc will be dependent on your desires and the cv carb (I'm unfamiliar with it)

Yeah I finally saw that two of those lines go to the transfer case which I will obviously retain, but I will try to clean up the rest of them. I got the engine and trans out last night. Far more difficult than doing so on the Imprezas I will say. A load leveler will surely be used for reinstall. Tonight's plan is to separate the tranny and clean it up as well as push the Justy outside and hose that engine bay down. I think the carburetor should be pretty easy to mount and attach the throttle cable to. Things are looking up so far! I'll keep you posted.
