Hello all,
A Justy newbie from Finland here Nice forum! And apologies and thanks in advance!
I just got a Justy that had been stored in a shed (or at least under a roof) for about 10-12 years. Originally it was bought cheap by a car mechanic to become his project. However, he only did some work on it (such as some rust from sides was fixed and doors were fixed) and forgot it for quite a few years. It already had some rust when left to the shed and now a bit more (but it is not that bad, I'd say). Much has been taken off, such as bumpers, interior, seats etc but I have pretty much all the parts.
When I went to get it, all the wheels were stuck and not moving at all. We got it on my trailer with a loader and winch I got it out from the trailer by pulling it with my loader.
All the brakes were stuck, I removed the front brake assembly from both front wheels and got the front wheels moving. Rear was a bit tricky, but after some banging and swearing I got the rear brake pads loose, but that did not yet release the wheels. I eventually rocked the Justy back and forth with a loader, with rear wheels attached and got the rear wheels moving. I wonder if the rear differential could have been stuck? 12 years is a long time.
Now the wheels turn and I managed to move it to my workshop.
Now, I am open to all suggestions, (like maybe opening a new thread!) but my plan to do next is:
-Drain engine oil
-Drain gasoline
-Replace timing belt and its tensioner (anything else to do here?)
-Put in some engine oil specially meant for "rinsing or washing" the engine (or maybe just standard oil? what oil would be best for engine that has been still for a really long time?)
-Put in some new gasoline (maybe with some addons or some "special" gasoline?)
-New battery
Then I plan to try to start the engine. If we can't make it run, then it does not make much sense to get any other parts, such as brake parts, eh?
Any other suggestions or recommendations? With what checks should I begin?
Sorry for the bad photo, I will take better pics when I proceed with this project.
EDIT: Apparently linking to dropbox does not work if using img..
Here is the picture: www.dropbox.com/s/5n7w056b1c99li8/JustyTallissa.jpg?dl=0
I will investigate how to link pics directly from dropbox or other place..
EDIT: Let's see if we can see...
