Hi, I was hoping to get some help figuring out a problem with my headlights and such. Was driving a 60 mi trip and a little more than half way I stopped at a store, when I started it up and turn light switch 1st click dash lights are on 2nd click no dash lights but have headlights so continued on. I stopped again at end of trip and parked up against a wall, one headlight is normal & one is dim like a candle and no dash lights and barely noticeable running lights. So to get home I wired 2 extra head light bulbs to the battery and left the others in sockets in engine bay. So with headlights powered off battery I just turn the switch 1 click to have dash lights and running lights but also use the parking light switch cuz it noticeably brightens dash lights and running lights.
Some help would be appreciated please and thank you!

What year is the car?
Sounds like a bad headlight switch and maybe a ground issue on the dim light.

My bad its an 89 GL 2door ECVT Carb'd style w/o vacuum advance:
Do you really think its the switch? That would be a hassle to change & according to the parts store they want like 200+ for the combination switch! HA! 2/3's what I paid for the car dont think so but I know of a junkyard that has 2 in yard both 4wd believe it or not a 1st and 2nd gen.
Anyways what are the chances of it being a relay? Also where the heck are the relays located in the lil reckless hoodlums?

Hello there, any luck with this yet? I am having a similar issue with my 88 fad just. Mine differs in that I did see a plume or smoke emit from the switch area. I have done lots of work to track a new switch down and I have had NO success. Even if you could guide me on how you hot-wired the headlights, that would be appreciated.

Thanks for that info. On replacement switch. Any advice on bypassing the headlight switch to come on with the parking lights? Any info would be helpful! Thanks again
