Tonights task was to figure out why it took forever to get up to speed, At first I thought it was just slow but occasionally after a couple of decent bumps It would speed up past 70mph, Figured a) Plugged Cat..... or b) fuel filter. Well tonight I pulled the first cat and found that it must have recently been replaced with a OE Subaru Cat, I Pulled it to check to see how the honeycomb looked and its brand new and I shined my light through it and could see that it wasn't plugged. I had the rest of the exhaust removed already so I start going down the line, It seemed to have a rattle to it so I Cut the second cat out, and bingo we found the problem. I believe the last owner had the first cat replaced but the shop or him didn't think about where the melted cat particles went. Anyhow, Torn between replacing it with a short piece of pipe or just installing a new cat in its place. Im surprised it even ran at all, even after dumping all the crap out I still couldn't see though the honeycomb even with a light.
Next week off I plan on tackling the struts but Rockauto no longer carries them in stock, I saw a post on here saying they had them in europe but It seems they no longer do? Any help here? Also are all 4 strut mounts the same?

Ive been looking for one for quite some time now and I happen to purchase my first one! 1988 Subaru Justy GL (Of Course 1.2L Carb Model). First 2 miles It was meant to be LOL. 88,100 miles (Not 188,000 or 288,000). Its got the normal problems, It needs a whole set of struts front and rear, could use some strut mounts as well, has oil leaks anywhere one could leak oil. Bought this as a commuter to and from work (700 miles a week). If it really had 88k (not 188k or 288k) then you likely would not need new struts and mounts all around and have oil leaking out of everything. The first thing a new Gen 1 Justy owner needs to come to terms with is that their car has more than 99,000 miles on it.

Normally I wouldn't believe it myself but Ive got records from day 1 that came with the car, I can only imagine either all this time sitting or they lived on a long dirt road (Which is likely given I'm in the boonies Colorado ) I don't think the strut mounts need replaced but It couldn't hurt. The local subaru dealer seemed to have access to all struts and strut mounts but its unclear If the strut mounts interchange with the newer 89-94 stuff. I wish I had access to a newer car to see why theres a parts break, I have all the original part numbers but they come up as discontinued.

Now Im working on headlights, The headlights are stuck with highbeams on but its not indicated on the dash, I got power to all of the relays under the dash too, even with the high beams on or off, If I turn the high beams on It turns the headlights off. Scratching my head on this one. I ordered two new relays and There is no jumper wires or add ons I can find. Will post up fix when I get it figured out

It is not possible for the highbeams to be on without the indicator, unless the indicator is burnt out.
It's important to remember the 1st gen Justy's have a LH and a RH relay, however, the LH is LOWBEAM and the RH is HIGHBEAM. The lights are turned on in parallel.
Headlight switched turned off, highbeam switch off. Are the lights on? Are they highbeam? If yes how do you know they're highbeam?
Headlight switch off, highbeam switch on, are any lights on? If so which ones? Is the indicator on?
If headlight switch off and highbeams are on, remove Fuse #2. Did they go out? If not, remove Fuse #3 as well, did they go out?

I pulled one fuse, I believe #3 and I had super dim lights with the running light on. I think I may have figured out the issue. I believe the bulb is burned out on the cluster and if I jumper'd ground on the headlight to the body it would work on high beam so I'm thinking there's a grounding issue.
Normally when I turn the headlights on both low and high filaments are getting power. Also one relay is getting hotter then the other so I'm going to swap them tomorrow.

If the justy has a carb, should it have a distributor with vacuum advance? Seems it should but mine does not?
