Hello all! I am in the middle of re-building the carb for my 1990 Subaru Justy, fwd. When I separated the center and top sections of the carb a small needle valve came out and I did not see where from. I have the check ball that fits unter the accelerator pump, but I am not sure where this piece goes?? I reassembled the carb once with the needle down the hole just below and to the right if the accelerator pump well. It wasn't able to maintain a steady RPM and it would bob in between 2k and just flat out dying as if it is no longer metering fuel properly. If anyone can help, I would greatly appreciate it.

That looks to be your needle from your needle and seat valve that controls the flow of fuel into the carb via linkage to the float. The "seat" part of the needle and seat valve will be screwed into the "lid" of the carb near the inlet for fuel. When your looking at the lid with the float assembly you will see what will probably be a brass "seat" that has the opposite shape on the inside of it as the outside cone of that needle. thats where that piece should go.
Hope that helps.

Oh, alright, well then that shoots my idea down. My justy already had a weber installed so I havent had to experience the factory carb. Good luck Im not sure where the heck that guy goes.

This image is for an 88 carb, but it may help. Looks like your piece is #15. Terry

Yep, injector weight. From your description it sounds like you had it installed in the correct location. There aren't really many places it can go other than where it's supposed to.

Hmm, I definitely couldn't find anywhere else it would fit that felt correct. I re-assembled the carb and it runs, but not well. I checked all over for cmvaccume leaks to no avail and inspected all lines. It idles really rough as though it is too lean. The only way to keep it running is to turn the idle screw up a ways and keep it around 1500rpm, so it then diesels really bad on shut down. Cruises at speed perfectly fine and accelerates great, but everytime I would push in the clutch it dies without my foot on the gas pedal... I don't smell or see fuel anywhere, seems more like it is under gassed than over, fuel pump seems to be functioning and the filter is allowing it to flow freely... Not sure what else I can do with it?
Thanks for the diagram BTW! That is very helpful.
