Just finishing up a complete engine rebuild of 89 4x4 Justy. After installing the valve stem seals and putting the head all back together, I realized that the exhaust seals may have been a different height than the intake seals and I just put them all on without considering that. After checking the old ones I pulled off, I realized they were indeed different heights. I guess I got to excited about finishing up the rebuild and wasn't paying attention . Should I take the head apart and reinstall seals in the correct place or does it not matter? I have seen differing opinions on the Web but nothing definite. I'm not even sure that the new seals I bought were different heights anyway. They were all in the same package.

If its all back together and ready to drive down the road, I say run it until theres a problem. if you get lucky and theres no oil consumption then leave it be. if not well, then you know you gotta do it

agreed x2 i think the last set I had were all equal length, unlike the stock ones i pulled off. as long as the spring retainer isn't smacking them; who cares. drive it

theres some theory to thermal expansion of the valve and the material the stem seal is made of, but i doubt it can really hurt to run this one the way it is.

I ended up using the same 9 valve seals for every valve. I noticed the same thing, but decided it wouldnt matter, and so far it hasnt. I've been over 1000 miles like this and no more smokkkeee... The seals that came for the exhaust valves were a fair bit smaller in diameter than the valves, so I sent them back and just got 3 more of the ones I used on the intake seals.
