91 justy redish 2 door
Just got it in oct. clutch was fried, oil poured out the motor everywhere.dirty as hell, interior was horrid(previous owner spilled coke and coffee alot and long curly red hair in everything)and had 2 12 rims on the back and some flat 15 spare doughnuts up front. and i bought a 88 justy 4wd for $200 cause it had a good dash, crackless windshield, the better seatbelts not attached to the door and other bits i would need.
i got started before the snow started to fall, got the motor out and was getting everything cleaned up and the snow started (did i mention i am doing this all in a rock driveway with only a parts jeep cherokee as my tool shed)so under the tarp the motor went till march.over the winter i got the interior stripped and all that tar based sound deadner removed. exposing the rustiness.
March comes and the snow melts. i get it all back together slowly, going round and round with getting the correct parts to rebuild the dizzy. but at last the beast lives again,no oil leaks or coolant leaks ,clutch works great, everything appears to be in working order even the cig light plug is hot.except the 4wd not engaging or light coming on (but i have 7 months till i need to worry about that).engine runs a little rough , i did the sea foam top engine therapy and threw a bottle of sea foam in the tank with a fresh full tank.12 miles since and it runs rough @ idle still,(fuel filter had a rusty color mud/fuel come out both nips, and when i shook it the element was loose inside , so i will probably need injectors as well ).
Ok, so other than just getting everything in working order ,i did a few tricks to get me towards the end goal.
gutted bumpers with the plasma cutter - 8-10 lbs
front hubs turned on lathe to 54.1mm, want to run scion rims 4x100 15x6 54.1mm centers
with the back seats removed,no carpet ,insulation or sound deadner i am guestimating 90-100 lbs weight removed total.
getting ready to take up to the machine shop and weld up the rust holes and add some 1x2 120 wall rect under the door beams ( subframe? ) to reinforce the rusted spots im repairing and build a proper skid plate for the front. i would like to put in a roll cage at some point in the future so this will be done with that in mind, will also make plates to go on top of the struts for the braces (braces for now ,rollcage later on). and do some seam welding to help stiffen the chassis. after this its stuts and tires and i will get the car insured and start its second life.
ok my question is struts ,there were some kyb's at onetime but hard to find now. what are my options?
