My justy has always had cooling issues, made poor heat in the summer. Ran hot (but still drivable intermittently)
As of last winter it got to the point where the car wouldn't run when started in the winter without keeping my foot on the gas. At this point in time I knew the engine wasn't happy due to balancing shaft chain and guide being worn so I decided to rebuild the engine.
During disassembly it became clear that the head was cracked and was leaking coolant into the combustion chamber/leaking compression hence the cooling issues and running problems.
During rebuild I replaced almost everything I thought I should. New front engine cover (oil pump housing was scored), new water pump, new oil pump, bearings, valves, valve springs, balancing chain/guide, thermostat (non oem), radiator. And them some other stuff that really has no relation.
After rebuild everything worked fine. Drove it for a few days to break it in, heat worked but this was during summer.
Fast forward to beginning of winter. Car takes forever to heat up, when I get on the highway temp gauge would drop And I lost all heat.
This says thermostat to me and regardless of it being new I went and bought an oem unit from Subaru. This gave me better heat but depending on driving conditions the temp gauge fluctuates too much and the only thing that could make sense to me (since everything else is new) is the water pump.
At higher rpms the gauge starts to creep, there was a head wind driving on the highway yesterday and I had to keep it above 4000 rpms to even keep it up to speed, barely.
At idle the temp gauge sits at approximately a quarter.
On the highway under normal cruising conditions it sits here.
Under city driving conditions it sits at approximately half. It's kind of driving me insane. Could the water pump impeller somehow be an issue? /hangs self
