just saying hi as im new hear, ive been "big" into 80s isuzus. did some searching for Justy info and that got me to this site, looking for basic info such as gearing, drive layout, hp/torque, auto weight, air drag ect-ect. ive more or less looking to see if the Justy would be a good candidate for a conversion to a drive train out of a 80s I-mark. there RWD and have the 4FB1 diesel 1.8L I-4 SOHC 8v with 51 hp and 72 ft·lb of torque, high idle or the gas term-red line is 5K engine is about 370lbs, manual trans another 90lbs im guessing the justys upwards of 1/2 that....LOL any way i was thinking since the Justy's were made in a 4wd model. even though when in 2wd its FWD, that there mite be room for a RWD layout.......mabe, mabe not? i haven't seen a photo of a engine bay without any thing in it yet.. the only other auto thats close is REALLY RARE a toyota Starlet there rather odd being geo size and RWD from factory. don't see a link to this info on Justys, but i thought it was some real good info... www.dustysjustys.com/info. Any conversion that consists of a transmission going through the firewall will be running into the steering rack. The factory trans can only handle 150hp ish not much torque ether and no other trans is like it. Anything you want to bolt onto the original trans, with maybe an adaptor can't be any longer then the original 3cyl., it will hit the frame. If you want to go RWD only you may want to put the engine in the back...or you will need to fab a trans tunnel and find a way to steer. Here is a build thread with a picture of a empty engine bay. subarujusty.proboards.com/thread/2399/justy-turbo-1-2-ic?page=1I hope this helps.

"diesel 1.8L I-4 SOHC 8v with 51 hp and 72 ft·lb"?? Justy got 1.2 carb with 50kw and some 100Nm (some 63Hp and some 70 ft/lb)...

yea id say thats not going to be a practical. could be done, but would be a major job to say the least... haven't found a empty bay photo of the ZOO, but this shows the OE bay real good..with the engine. cant see the trans but its nearly as long as the engine. www.dailyturismo.com/2013/11/5k-slowest-car-ever-1981-isuzu-i-mark.htmlan electric fan would gain about 4" but it would still be nearly 8" to big still. putting the engine to the stock subaru trans would likly be suicide for it as the isuzu trans can even have issues with it. the gearing of the rear axil would not be suited for diesel rpms ether...the I-mark is closer to 3.5 to 1

Any conversion that consists of a transmission going through the firewall will be running into the steering rack. Herein is the major issue for any such RWD swap... Rear steer rack means rear steer uprights, so you need to swap the whole front end. which yer' gonna do anyway, but then you need to engineer steering from scratch. Had suby put the steering gear up front on a sub frame it's all be rosy, but they didn't.
