Just drove my '89 from Eugene, OR to Seattle and once I arrived and I started having trouble starting it back up. Weather isn't that much different right now, and before the long haul it started up right away with just a little help from the gas pedal. Now it'll turn over and only start if I hold the gas pedal fully depressed for a few seconds. Even then it's the third 10-second try that will get it going.
Once I get it started, the car won't idle cold either. Once warmed up, it'll sit at 1800 (high still IMO) but I can't keep the engine alive cold.
Carb hasn't been cleaned and the timing was adjusted a while ago. Could the timing still be off? This is my project for the week..

Check ignition timing, if it's way off the timing belt may have jumped. Start simple and make sure cap/rotor/plugs/wires are all good then proceed from there.

This is my project for the week.. if the car ran all the way form eugene to seattle (5hrs?) it wont be a dirty carb. btw, i live in seattle and the GF's fam lives in eugene so we make the drive all the time. Id bet a few vac lines managed to come off or develop a chaffed hole somewhere. if you want, PM me with your specific location. i might be able to come out and help you get this sorted out. one thing i used to have an issue with. I had the carb adjusted so it was running as lean idle as possible. right ont he fringe of dieing. when the seasons changed, which kinda drastically happened last weekend in seattle, the carb wouldnt hold idle. it needed to be adjusted with the big season changes. are you stranded in seattle right now?
