Hi Ive got one of the later 98 justy 1.3 that doesnt have a electronic 4wd centre diff lock button. From what I understand of the system it has a coupling located just in front of of the rear diff that lets it run 2wd most of the time and then allows up to 50/50 split when cornering slip etc. Had anybody or does anyone know if it is possible to lock this so it just runs 50/50 permanantly? I know it wont be great for ecconomy

The button locks it in so it's 50/50 all the time.
The problem is the justy does not have a center diff so there is nothing to take up the stress when cornering on dry pavement. If you run on dry pavement with it on you will strip out hubs and break things.
The only way to remedy this is to install a center diff which is not an easy task. It would require major research, engineering and fab work.

I know it wont be great for ecconomy You have a rebadged Suzuki so no one here knows much about it (we're good up to '94); however, on other '90's AWD Subarus the power distribution is controlled by a solenoid (it's called the duty C solenoid) and clutch pack in the tailstock of the transmission. In that situation, you can do a hack/toggle switch override on the solenoid that will lock the power split at 50/50. Not sure if that is how your Suzuki is built, but I suspect that you might be able to do something similar.

My understanding is the Cultus/Swift was an Viscus Coupler, and so there is not a lot you can do to alter it's performance "cheaply" You could remove it and insert a machined shaft to takes it's place... But there would be no way to unlock...

Ok thanks guys. Yeah I can see looking around this is more for the earlier ones but thought someone might know. That is my understanding if it, that it is a viscous coupling on the rear diff ( there is a unit bolted to the front of it actually on the car) and yes I was thinking can it be replaced with machined shaft but I thought there was possibly a centre diff in the gearbox/transfer. If the early justy have no centre diff then may be mine doesnt either I guess and it has the viscous coupler instead. I will see if I can find out if the later gbox is different setup then now I guess.I havent really investigated it enough. Any one know a forum for the later justys or am I best on swift ones may be? Thanks for help

According to Wikipedia, the Swift/Justy AWD has a VC diff (same as the old Volvo V70XC/850 AWD afaik), I got all the service manuals for the Justy AWD if you need them..
