Dear Justy Freaks,
Hi, I'm Sean I'm new to this forum, and I have just purchased a 92 Justy GL (base model), FWD (I kinda wish it was a 4x4), 5-speed, carburated (I kinda wish is was a EFI engine). I am going to use this thread to provide details on my build, and share with this excellent community.
Ok, with photobucket not working how do I link in photos from by flickr account?
Cheers, Loki

The interior seats are trashed, both front and rear. But I have found some replacements at a nearby wrecking yard :0) Along with many other bits: -new dash (old one was cracked and worn down to the underlying foam in places) -new instrument cluster (I wanted a tach instead of the shift light) -new sun-visors (because the old ones were floppy and impeding vision) -new color matched front grille (because color) and now a have a spare Subaru Star logo for the back of the car -new seatbelts (because the old ones were frayed and not safe) -new seatbelts release thingy (because the old ones had the red plastic push button broken) Oh, and I figured out how to post pictures :0) I have downloaded a manual (aka: bible) and this will be really helpful for figuring things out. I was thinking about swapping all the parts from the car I found in the wreckers such as 4x4 systems and EFI engine... but this more work that I'm willing to take on, and "if it aint' broke don't fix it. "When I blow up the carb engine or have a big problem I may do something more. cheers, Loki.

Hey, cool! I know who used to own that car - You came to Vancouver Island to buy it, right?
Looks like you're giving it the attention it has needed for so long, the body is great and it is a prime candidate to fix up. I wouldn't worry too much about it being 2wd, they do great in the snow, and especially what you would expect here on the west coast.
Keep us posted on the work, you're doing a fine job!

Thanks for the well wishes Armageddous.
Yes, I did come to Vancouver Island to buy the car. I think that I got really LUCKY to be the guy to get it. The previous owner lost the keys for an afternoon, because a BEAR came into her yard and scared here and her dog which caused her to lose the keys in the grass. This prevented her from showing it off to many of the buyers lined up to come and see it. She later found them, and she picked me up at the Ferry Terminal so that I could buy it.
Stupid things I've learned: -4door seatbelts will not fit in a 2door (I'm looking for a driver's side seatbelt if anybody has one!) -2door rear seat has a cut-out for the fuel filler neck, 4door rear seat does not, but can be squished into place. -2door rear seat backs is a single piece, and the 4door rear seat back are two piece and will not quite fit. (I'm looking at doing some sewing to take the fabric skins off the 4door two piece seat backs and sewing them together to cover the 2door rear seat back.
I have found about 5$ in change! I have found one small dog worth of hair!
After the interior is done, I will start with mechanical stuff and replacing fluids. Thanks for reading,
Cheers, Sean.

Here is a view of the back of the vehicle when I first bought it... And here is a view of the back of the vehicle after I cleaned off all the previous owner's stickers.

The old seats were completely trashed, with torn seams, duct tape, and they smelt like freshly muddied dog, that had just enjoyed a romp in the woods. The new seats bolted right in, and they look great! I now also have the adjustable headrests. I did my first oil change since I have bought the car, I have no idea when the previous owner changed it last. I also changed the air filter, because the old one was a very very dirty girl.

Many different areas of the world where Subaru has imported the Justy have emissions testing to ensure that you are not belching horrible black smoke and toxic fumes. Well okay, you are allowed to belch a little bit, you are burning gasoline, after all. Here in the province of British Columbia we have a program called: "AirCare" where they put your car on a Dyno (rolling road) and then they measure what comes out of your tailpipe. The testing people had some issues with the Justy, as the wheelbase is soooooooo tiny, they had to custom adjust the Dyno :0) proving that the Justy is special. Justy passed with old oil, dirty air filter, old plugs, and who knows what else was not adjusted properly. They measure CO2 emissions and NOx emissions.

WheelsSo I didn't like the look of the silver with some black patches, with rust marks, and dirt on my awesome stock Subaru 12in wheels. So I have decided to paint them a "Dark Steel" color. Here is a shot of "Before"... I think this is one of the nicer looking wheels.
Step 1: Jack up car, Remove all wheels Step 2: Wire wheel brush all wheels Step 3: Wipe down wheels with paint prep chemicals Step 4: Mask off rubber tires
Step 5: Spray paint with a radial pattern, wait impatiently for them to dry Step 6: Remount wheels and admire them, like a masterpiece of art
This is a bit of a poor photo, but I think it looks much better than original.

Spark Plugs I removed the stock plugs which are NGK (BPR6ES-11). All three had a nice light tan colored deposits, but the gaps were a little too big. Saved them for emergency spares. I installed some NEW Champion spark plugs which are CHAMPION (415 RN9YC) Noticeable improvement in driveabilty and it feels more peppy now.

Replaced Fuel filter. A good trick to determine if you need to change your filter or not: Measure the weight of the old one compared to the weight of the NEW one. In order for this to work properly you need to have them both filled with fuel. The sediment, dirt, and debris will be noticeably heavier in the old contaminated fuel filter.

Looks like a clean runner from the plugs. I would put the tan hazing on the PCV system. Those wheels look good, if you ever find your self on the island again I have a set of 12" wheels/tires I could let go cheap. I run 13"s on mine so I don't really need them. Keep up the good work.

Ditch those champions. Japanese cars flat out run better on NGK V-powers and in some rarer cases, denso's. looks good though. I did lots of the same kind of things on my justy when i got it too. Mostly interior replacements. One thing i really recommend, is if you have the seats out, its a good time to install a seat heater btw, i was under the impression that carbed motors ended in 89 or 90. can someone confirm/correct that?

Carb motors bled into 92 as far as I can tell. It seemingly depended on trim level and location. 4wd models in northern climates we're more likely to be efi than 2wd models in the south.
I have a 92, 2wd parts car that's carbed.

I agree and would prefer NGK's but my autoparts place (Lordco) didn't have them, so I felt that a new set of plugs, any brand, was going to be better than my old worn out set. In regards to the CARB'ed motors in 92: I think the higher trim level GL was a fuel injected model, whereas the lower trim level DL (which I have) was a CARB'ed model. This is confirmed by the 92 GL EFI that I found in the autowreckers in Surrey, BC.

New Speakers I put some Infinity twin cone 4in speakers in the little holes in the back of the vehicle, and connected up the stock wiring. I need to sort out the wiring behind the head unit in the dash next to get tunes in the car.

Rear Seat Back Okay, so we have learned that the rear seat backs with the 50/50 split will not fit in the two door FWD model. So I have removed the foam and the upholstery to migrate this over to the original rear seat back... with a little bit of sewing and some stretching it will all fit, and will look nice and very close to stock. I'm pretty sure that I will not have many passengers in the back seat (perhaps my nieces/nephews).

I am also curious about where you put those speakers, I wasn't aware there were holes? Terry
