I've got a '93. Car has no pick-up/power. Starts and idles great. Have done compression and leakdown tests, set timing, adjusted valves, replaced plugs/cap/rotor/wires, checked flow through cat/exhaust, checked coil.
When I test the distributor the static ohm reading is correct but the manual says that moving a screwdriver around the pickup coils should make the reading fluctuate. Mine does not. Anyone experience this? Could it be the cause of my trouble?

Do you get any codes from the computer?

I have a 32 and 43 sitting in the system.

32 Oxygen sensor or circuit (no. 1, right side on SVX) 43 Throttle switch (Justy)
I'd take out my multimeter and check the TPS (Throttle Position Sensor).

TPS checked out o.k. (the Chilton manual says there should be a resistance in the k Ohm range across the contacts. That seems to be incorrect. The contacts are closed or open, depending on throttle position.) I replaced the o2 sensor. No improvement.

Fuel pressure maybe? You said you set the timing (ignition I assume), was it way off when you checked it? If so that could be an indication your timing belt jumped.
Yes you're right on the TPS. The connector has 3 wires, the center is "Common", the top and bottom refer to "Idle" and "Power" where power is engaged and around 3/4 throttle. At idle you should have <1 Ohm between center and bottom, opened and up to 3/4 throttle infinite resistance between all poles, 3/4 and above <1 Ohm between middle and top.
Disclaimer: I may have "top" and "bottom" poles mixed up, but you get the idea.

I think you may be right. Right after I bought the car the timing belt went. Had it towed to a local (non Subaru specific) shop. They replaced the belt but less than a month later the belt went again. Took back to the same shop and they covered the repair. My number one plug wire is at the front of the car, not the top as I've recently read it's supposed to be. I mean that on the distributor the number one is toward the front of the car. Something like 9 'o clock when looking at the distributor from the drive-side fender. Thanks. Still wondering though why my pickup coils don't react to a metallic object waved around them.
