Hey guys, I'm having fun with the valve clearances on my 94 1.2 efi.
I first adjusted them to spec I've read of 0.06' intake and 0.10' exhaust. This was insanely loud and down on power. So I tried the tight spec of 0.05' and 0.09'. On a really cold morning with thick oil they're the quietest they have ever been. But once it's warmed up a little they're still really loud. I was thinking maybe wind them in to 0.04 and 0.08 to see how much difference that may make.
Has anyone ever battled with getting the correct setting? I was thinking of just winding them in till the touch the valve, and then spin them back 90 degrees like we do at VW (dealer I work at).
What's peoples experiences??

On my '85 1.0 carb, I just did them by the specs stamped on the bonnet, with a semi cold engine... It's been great since.
I did have a slight tapping sound after I changed to synthetic oil (mobile 1 0w40), and I did a engine flush using Omega Engine Flush at the same time, but that tapping sound went away after a few miles.
Now it purs like a 3 cyl justy engine.

I wish mine would be nice like that haha. It's slightly quieter after a flush and oil change 3/4 weeks ago but I'm gonna do them again. That was on a cold engine too.

I have also just notice dustysjustys have the clearance spec as 0.006, not 0.06. The latter is correct I think isn't it?

the former is correct. .006. and .010 for the exhaust.
when you are doing this, its normally +/- .001 so if it says .010, the .011 should fit but the .012 should not. i personally set mine on the slightly tighter side.
also i swear my 89 cared model is like .014 on the exhaust side. i remember thinking it was the largest valve clearance id ever seen.
