I just brought a 1988 Subaru Justy 4wd and if I'm in traffic the temperature starts to go up really slow. The highest it has gone up is right above 1/2 way. It hard to keep running when first turned on. I know its the choke but after it warms up still runs a little ruff. It idles at 1500 to 2200 rpms all the time. Think I should rebuild my carb or get a weber? Just did full tune up year ago. I got the car from my friend. Just let me know. The Justy has 148000 miles. Im replacing the timing belt and water pump this week. The shop wants to charge me 400 just for labor.

It's OK for the needle to climb when in traffic. You should change the coolant, check the thermostat and if that doesn't help, give the radiator a good flush. This involves taking it out (not hard), and rotating it as you stick a hose down it to ensure it gets through all the water passages. Sludge usually builds up at the bottom if the coolant isn't changed for proper anti-freeze.

The temp climb is normal, but just make sure the cooling fan is coming on and the fluid is clean and full. Timing belt is simple, you should do that yourself. Carb depends. I put a used one on mine, they are still out there (car-parts.com). Weber was my 2nd choice if i couldnt find a carb. My justy has only 26K on it so i am trying to keep it as original as i can.
